I really enjoyed watching this movie. First it has a plot, second the battles are very good (I really love sword figthing) , third Kitano is very good
Must see movie
P.S. I did not understand the dancing in the end, but 10x to zyzzyva I finally understand what it means, 10x again

Dou itashimashite, Sauronu!
I'm glad that cleared it up for you. [I was worried no one read my attempted explanation... Embarassed ]
Movies like Zatoichi can be difficult to translate (both language-wise and overall comprehension-wise) for a new audience because of the countless references of varying sources. Of course they are enjoyable without having to know each and every piece of background, but it enriches to experience.
It doesn't have to be a cultural/language barrier either. Any sort of specific genre or topic can be completely unintelligible to the unfamiliar audience. Like ones about the theatre business (Shakespeare in Love comes to mind, as well as The Producers--original and recent versions both). They're chock full of inside jokes and stereotypes of their own which give those acquainted a particular chuckle or cringe here and there. Not necessary for following the plot, but enhancing the experience.
