I just managed to get my hands on the Rose Album. I love it! It definitely lived up to my expectations. I think perhaps my favorite songs on there (at the moment!) are Vintage Denim, Funny Dream, Long Long Way, and 5 minutes. Just to name a few.
What songs do you guys like? Thoughts on the new album? |

The new album, to be honest, to me is not as good as her debut album, but then, it would be near impossible to top off her debut album (imo). i do love the new album though. funny dream is my favorite track at the moment. i just love it, also i love the way the album starts off with her beat count 1, 2, 3, 4... *aaahhhh metls*
i love the cd book that comes with it and the short documentary that was on the dvd. it follows a little rie fu diary of her performing live, painting, meeting fans, producing songs in the studio and all her pvs from this album, all put together.
i can upload it here if you guys wanna see it.

| I haven't had a chance to listen to the album yet but the DVD is very cool. It was great to see her in the studio. I'm assuming that she recorded the album in England. |

i would assume that songs Realize, Conversation and Kiss U Goodbye were done in London because they have the same band members. In the album book on the last page it says, all songs were written by Rie fu (songs 5, 7, 9 written by Rie Fu, Susie Hug). The songs I mentioned above are songs 5, 7 and 9...
In the Recording Studios listings, it lists a few places: i dunno which ones are in London...

Rie Fu
[New Single]
"Until I Say"
Out: 2006.7.19
Tracklist:
1. Until I Say [preview] [lyrics]* (English+Japanese)
2. Sunshine of My Day [preview][lyrics]* (English)
3. tobira [preview][lyrics]* (Japanese)
Rie's new single “Until I Say”, features on the Original Soundtrack of the Japanese release of the film Heidi, and is a very sweet song. The music video of the song [youtube] starts off with a view of the Swiss Alps (as expected from a song on the OST of the Heidi film) and Rie in an adorable white dress.
It's a love song. There's nothing else you can say about it, nothing more than that it is a lovely love song. I think it works so well especially because it is backed by a strong piano score and well put together harmonies. I must say that the singles that she releases are often less like her actual style of singing and tend to sway more towards a more general Jpop feel (just like this song) but then again, artists need to make a living too.
The B-Side of this single contains two new songs by Rie Fu, both of which are impressive from the word “Go!”. Now that the single’s out, I’ve had a chance to rip apart...er I mean "carefully unwrap" my brand spanking new copy and listen to the coupling songs, I think that the coupling tracks a lot more like her original style that all her fans like so much.
There are two coupling tracks on this single; the first of which is called “Sunshine of My Day”. Another new track from Rie fu, this one I thought had a very “Sheryl Crow” feel to it. It was very cool in that sense, a little bit of Rock and a little bit of Pop coming together for a strong funky tune. It almost reminds me of “Somebody’s World” from her first album. It has that same kind of energy in it. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this song is just as good as “Somebody’s World” because that is one of her best songs in my opinion, but this one isn’t bad.
“tobira” [Japanese for “Door”] on the other hand is much much calmer song, in fact, I might even go as far as to say that it’s the calmest one she’s done so far. Even more so than “Ame no hi ga sukitte omotte mitai” and even more than “Long Long Way” from her recent ROSE Album. This one (”tobira”) I like better, no doubt. Entirely acoustic with nothing but Rie and her guitar. I love the harmonies on it too. Very well put together track, good lyrcs, good tune, I’m not complaining. This one might become my favourite song of her’s…might… I highly recommend a quick listen by clicking on the preview link above and heading over to my blog a quick sampling.
And of course, if you like the singles, you can head over YesAsia and buy the single for yourself. Remember to use the channel-ai YesAsia associate link to kill two birds with one stone.

Oh wow, I can't tell you happy I am to have found this thread. I've been looking forever for someone to translate blog posts, and you actually offered to do it if anyone was interested!
I first started to listen to Rie fu when she released "Life Is Like a Boat"; I saw the PV online and was struck by how emotionally sincere it was, and how the lyrics really spoke to me. Not that many Jpop singers also posted in English in their blogs, which is another reason why I really connected to her. Her songs really helped me through some tough times (esp. Tsuki no Ue and Decay) and I was sad when she stopped posting full English entries in her blog.
But oh well, I still love her music. I liked her first album more than her second, but I like all of her post Rose Album-singles a lot. If you do end up translating some blog entries, I would really appreciate it! |

Rie fu's works have never failed to amaze me.
Unfortunately, some people don't like Rie fu's voice.
She is so talented and sadly, underrated. I hope she gets more attention from now on, since she's graduated and put all of her concentration into music. |
