ユメクイ - Dream Eater -
Romaji:

ano hoshi no shima mademo tonde yukeru
tenori uta utau boku no yume kui
kimi no soba nimo tatoritsukeru

Translation:
now, i'm on a journey toward my dream
I can fly until I reach that faraway star's island...
playing and singing about the dream I tasted
and struggling to reach your side...
if you can't remember the first
dream you had sketched out,
could it be because you have grown up?
to go right or left?
forever lost
talking until the sun rolls over
the only thing I brought in my pocket
is this large love
now, i'm on a journey toward my dream
I can fly until I reach that faraway star's island...
playing and singing about the dream I tasted
and struggling to reach your side...
in the colorful evening
my heart was stolen so I stumbled from the smallest thing
what you gave me for the place I had scraped
was an embarassingly cute bandaid
in the journey I wished for, I clung to my dream with my teeth
in the journey I wished for, I will again see my dream when I grow older
now, i'm on a journey toward my dream
wandering around, I came across something unexpected
playing and singing about the dream I tasted
In the future I've sketched out, you will always be there
now, i'm on a journey toward my dream
I can fly until I reach that faraway star's island...
playing and singing about the dream I tasted
and struggling to reach your side...
I will continue to see my dream by your side
---
Covered by Otsuka Ai in the drama Tokyo Friends.
I would say that "Dream Eater" is an adequate translation of the title, although it tends to have a somewhat abrupt connotation to it. A smoother and flowing translation would be "Dream Taster", "The Taste of Dreams", etc.
I like "Dream Eater" simply because it implies a sense of consuming something; devouring it and just being "driven" by it. This song seems to be about having found your dream and knowing where you want to go with it. Much like in the movie Tokyo Friends; surprise surprise...

EDIT: corrected the romaji, credits to kazfz for noticing it. also corrected "kiri" to "boya".
EDIT (1/26/07): "ookina..." changed to "okkina..." to accurately romanize the Japanese |

Really awesome work, vllasko, I'm really impressed that you already got the whole lyrics translation out even though we can only find the short version preview from the dorama. (or maybe they did included the whole song? )
The lyrics flows beautifully and its theme is strongly connected to the "Tokyo Friends" story, guess this song is specially composed to this dorama, i.e. this is not one of her earlier works before she debut. I'm not sure if Japanese use words like "Yume Kui" much, because "eating" your dream sounds a little awkward to me, maybe this is yet another Ai-chin's creative invention? "Amai Kimochi Maru Kajiri" also have the same kind of style in its title.
I wonder how are you able to figure out the whole song, is it fully played in the "Tokyo Friends" dorama? I should have ripped that part out too if you can tell me where is it.
Thanks for your continuing contribution to the Ai-chin community with your beautifully translated lyrics. I'm sure all of us here are very happy to see your work! |

eyn's right, this song does strongly connect to the drama! it's this kind of song that strikes a chord with my heart! i feel like i know exactly what she's singing about and that it's kind of like my own life too...
gives me kind of a strong but scary feeling haha i don't know how to explain it
the whole drama made me feel very strongly hahaha i guess that's why i like it so much!!
anyway, thanks again for the lyrics!!! |

I don't remember where exactly I got it from. It was a LONG time ago. Shortly after the Tokyo Friends movie came out. It was on a handful of AiO fan blog sites/communities, etc. And then it just slowly got buried beneath the mountains of other AiO information. |

Kazfz detacts some error, well i heard her say of cos lol.....just a small part
Well its the second verse
karafuru na kiri ni [ karafuru na moya ni ] - is this right ?
kokoro wo ubaware chottoshita koto ni tsuma dui ta
surimui ta ni kimi ga kure ta no wa [ surimui tatoko ni kimi ga kure ta no wa ] - is this correct ? i
hazukashii kurai no kawairashii ban sokou
kanaeru tabi ni kui tsukusu
kanaeru tabi ni mata yume wo miru ikutsu ni natte mo

the first one is most likely "boya" according to the what the song reads.
so it would probably be "in the colorful night" but I'll have to check that out further.
the second correction you suggested is just me running my stuff through a kanji to romaji parser because i'm too lazy to actually do that manually. I must've missed that, sorry.
Thank you for the corrections!
I'll update it in a bit. |
