Update 8/8:
Check out this wonderful explanation about Yumekui PV's various connections with Ai-chin's previous PVs, proudly presented by the most observant member, zyzzyva:
Yumekui PV: The Full Theory
---
I've been waiting for people to start a topic like this but I guess I'll have to do it. I believe most of you here have already watched the PV, so what's your opinion about it? While some of you might have posted your views in the download thread, let's make it a little more detailed here, shall we not? Also, keep in mind that not everyone has access to the download section, which makes "Ai's Chat Room" a better place for this.
I know a lot of you are dissapointed with the PV since Ai-chin wasn't in it. So, does animation PV works for you? How many of you here actually loved her CG PV before, namely "Kataomoi Dial" and "Daisuki dayo ~LOVE ver.~". I'm not a fan of those to be honest, but the animation in "Yumekui" PV is rather artistic and the colour tone actually makes you feel good, or maybe I just like brownish colours.
The reason why the PV is animated is very likely due to the fact that Ai-chin is very busy shooting the "Tokyo Friends" movie. You know something must be wrong when they haven't put up the trailer on the official movie site and the movie's out on August 12 (in less than a month). I really think they are rushing things here.
Anyway, back to the PV. The animation style isn't all that Japanese, and the city surely looks very medieval, especially the clock tower, even the main character is blonde! The tapir-like creature (see my current ava) appear in the PV is known as baku (獏) in Japanese. From the Wikipedia article, baku eats human's dream to survive, and it's a legendary creature originated from China. Baku has a bear's body, elephant's nose, rhino's eyes, cow's tail and tiger's feet. Tapir is also called baku in Japanese though, which closely resembles the description of this legendary creature.
There's a few things that's open to your interpretation in this PV, such as the big "D" box on top of the boy's head, Ai-chin's appearance in the PV as an animation character, the statue of liberty in one of the scene etc. So, do you have your own special theory about any of this?
I only figured out a few of them myself, but I've seen some insightful comment in the download thread, maybe you guys should bring it up here as well. The "D" box most likely signifies "Dream", which become quite clear when the box open and you see this boy having fun with the girl, supposedly in his dream. Why Ai-chin is in the PV is still quite unclear at this point, since this short version of PV is about 2 minute shorter than the original, a lot of details are missing here.
If you're still wondering if that animation character is Ai-chin herself, you can take a look at her costume:
Out of quite a few comments I've read in the download thread, I found some of zyzzyva's ideas rather interesting:
zyzzyva wrote: if you look carefully, it (statue of liberty) appears to be Ai from the Planetarium PV, hence the pinwheel she's holding instead of a torch and the stars flying around it. You can also see the green dress and pendant worn in the PV.
Also, at the end, when some of the fireworks explode, little goldfish appear and 'swim' out. You can see this best to the left of the heart-bubble/dream soon after it grows out of their heads. ~Kingyo Hanabi~!
And I made some caps that illustrate what she said:
I can't believe she found those goldfish, you must have some mad observation skill, zyzzyva! btw, I think the tree in this PV comes from Neko ni Fuusen PV, remember the tree with balloons? |

..... omg zyzzyva is crazy to notice such a thing!!! But it's so much more interesting now.
I have to admit that the animation was not as bad as I expected it to be, the animation was nice, quite western if you ask me, and I liked the strong "Yumekui" and love theme behind it.
But still, I would much rather prefer a real life one with Otsuka Ai in it.... who knows, maybe such an alternate PV may appear on the DVD of her next album. |

i thought that the PV was quite fascinating..but it didn't really do it for me..firstly..i didn't understand it...with the boxes and D symbol and the flying..animal...and secondly...i'm just not a big fan of animation PV's..even with Daisuki Dayo..everytime i watch the Pv i always watch the one where she's actually in it...maybe it could also be that i haven't seen enough animated PV's to truely apreciate the short storyline..so ok..i think it's back to reading the lyrics for me.. |

D = Dream [ the Yume kui, Yume = Dream ]... well i dont know what is kui at all lol [ someone mention it before ].....

oops...i think i voted wrongly.
i was suppose to vote 'They're okay, but I really want to see her in the PV!' i said previously that i thought the pv might have some association with Tokyo Friends drama/movie. so it's a pleasant surprise to me when it turn out to be an animation pv. anyway, i still find it very interesting...something i could never have imagined.
also, i dunno of any chinese legendary creatures that eats people's dreams to survive before though im a chinese...plus it allows people to ride on it...LOL.
wow....zyzzyva, ur eyes r really sharp! goldfish in fireworks! do u guys think she want Yumekui to be associated with Kingyo Hanabi? |

zyzzyva, you sure have good eyes^^ interesting! I'll pay more attention when I watch it again
The animated's OK especially after hearing comments from you and my friends^^ I find that I'm quite like it now; but I still prefer to see ai-chin in the PV.
For how I understand the PV, the boy and the girl are happy together, then the guy leave the girl, go looking for his dream and having fun, after a while he realizes that his dream is to be with the girl, but he wanders too far, ^^time for a little rescue^^ ai-chin use her beatiful voice to bring back the creature, ai-chin also gives the boy a bunch of flower to give his girl ... the boy and the girl end up married^^ <== All of this is just a dream^^ now the creature come back, eat the dream and fly away, make the dream come true^^ |

I just watched it for the first time, I really liked it I think its really cute I liked how when the boy was dreaming the images shifted so flowingly, I think it was done very well! The dream eater was sooo cute! XD Wow! That person is realllly obsevant, thats really neat how they have other PV's tied in! On the clock, the hands look like they are something too? Maybe not tied into a PV but they look like a turtle and a dolphin XD |

I don't really love this PV, but I do like it. It's different from past PVs, and that makes it refreshing to watch. I wouldn't compare it to her past animated PV though. Her past animated PV was focused on Love-chan. Those were cute, but there weren't really a story line. Whereas with Yumekui, even in this short version, we can see that a lot of planning went into the plot line. Especially with all the links to her other songs, that's really something.
Excellent observations zyzzyva. I probably wouldn't have noticed the Planetarium and Kingyo Hanabi link if you didn't mention it. Like eyn, I only notice the Neko ni Fuusen tree. I think these links to her other songs is just something they threw in to make the PV more interesting. Not that the link idea is impossible, I just think it's a bit too far fetch.
You can argue that the Planetarium link is to explain that Ai can finally be with the person she's separated. And the Kingyo Hanabi link explains that Ai finally had the courage to confront the person she likes.
Also, in Planetarium's first verse it talks about the voice of a child appears and fades away. In the second verse, it talks about fallen foot steps and a grownup's shadow. In Yumekui, one of the key line is 'If you can't remember the first
dream you had sketched out, could it be because you have grown up?' I guess you can kind of argue that Yumekui's child-grown up relations is a continuation from Planetarium's.
But then, how will you relate the Neko ni Fuusen link to Yumekui?
One animated PV is nice. But I certainly hope that Ai is not planning to continue making just animated PV. |

I thought everything was cute and all, and I really did like this PV, but it doesn't seem like it's...well, a single PV. More of an album PV. I do like the "connections" with her past PVs though.
It was fun to watch, but I thought Yumekui had so much more potential for a much better PV. I would loved it if they had a combination of Ai and cartoon. |

I certainly like this PV, it's better than the other PV like "Kataomoi Dial" and "Daisuki dayo ~LOVE ver.~". But sadly, Love is not in the yumekui PV, if i was the producer, i would put it some where~ It is better then the other animated PV's because the cartoon of Ai is in it and it's more fun watching it than the others before. The old ones are too simple and many other people do not get what it's doing. This new one is rather more colourful, interesting, as in zyzzyva's obseveration, we have seen many scenes similar in her real PV's~ Certainly, this PV is good. Although it's good, i still want to see her acting in the PV more. |

I loved the PV. The story is not the most very familiar but hey! so are all love stories ^__^
I think the boy is soooooooooo cute and that girl too but Ai-chan is the cutest x-D I like how they used the baku I thought it was a flying bear without a nose |

I love the PV, and I'm really consfused because many people dislike it. I dunno why, it's one of her best PVs from my opinnion.
I never saw those kingyo hanabis. Well now I do know that they are there xD But I still can't see the Neko ni Fuusen tree... Did you mean the Ai-scuplture? I guess not. But I can't spot the tree xDD Thanks for telling. ~_~;
And I wonder why the Dream Eater is so big? Shouldn't it be smaler than humans are? Since it looks scary as a big one.. But it's still cute. So are all characters too. |

Finally i watched the pv of Yume Kui and a well i have mixed feelings.
I kinda hoped/waited to see ai-chin in real image not in animeted format, but not that
that it would be bothering & irritating me..personally it was a good pv still. Only one thing though attached my attension like HilaryDuffFanboy mentioned the pv looked really kind of an western animation not like Japanese use to normally be.
But anyway it was a freshening pv in it's own ways. I guess also the storyline script fitted to the songs lyrics/feel. |
