Off-topic? Well, perhaps, but eel is one of Celsius's favorites.
Anyway... Thanks for the much needed bump zyzzyva!
Yes, the Avex site has been updated, and I happen to like it very much! I played around with the Baku for about 5 minutes. It's so cute.
I also read your thoughts on the new references that surfaced in the little preview a while ago. Very perceptive!
These little "easter-egg" references make me wonder... Is there a reason that Yumekui, specifically, shows these references as accumulations of her previous songs? According to her interview, Yumekui is very important to her, as it is her "proposal song," and she thinks that it is the most positive out of her songs.
Now that I think about it...
HilaryDuffFanboy's news regarding the [LOVE IS BORN] ~3rd Anniversary 2006~ concert comes to mind.
Perhaps to Ai, now is the time to *reminisce* and review her entire history. This must be why her latest single's PV shows tidbits of her past songs.
Conclusion: Yumekui is a full-fledged single and also doubles as a prelude to her 3rd Anniversary concert.
Nevermind, I think I'm just looking too far into it. Consider it my ramblings. |

wow^^ your prediction's very right^^ you have such a good imagination
I've been playing the full version PV agian and again but still don't see anything new than some new things eyn mentioned in his post with the DL link for the full PV...
Waiting for your observation zyzzyva^^ haha this's so interesting, wonder if we could link Yumekui to all ai-chin PVs^^ |

Now that I understand the PV more, I like it alot more.
It's really creative. But, I think of it as more of a PV for an album since it connects to her other singles and songs.
Other stuff I have observed(great observations, zyzzyva)
-The clock tower and tall buildings more or a western style, so I think its New York where the boy is.
-Ai-chan is floating in a hot air balloon holding a microphone thingy or is it called a PA?-HAPPY DAYS
-Theres a part where you see Ai-chan in a box on the ground, I see it as a screen(TV)-Like in the Cherish PV....
Theres a part where these odd creatures/monsters appear, when Ai-chan was riding the scooter. I wonder about that. Plus the little alien like thingy riding behind Ai-chan, it reminds me of the blue one circled below.

yukarichan: yeah! I see that connection, ai-chin on TV screen, too.
So that we have more connection between Cherish and Yumekui than others^^ 1. the girl stand as the windown 2. ai-chin on TV-screen 3. singing with the microphone^^ I think Cherish is the only PV so far ai-chin sing with a microphone like that 4. the builing in Cherish also Western style
I kind of make a (weak) connection for Kuroge Wagyu Joshio Tanyaki 680 Yen^^ the heart
And for Bidama
haha, this is so fun to do^^ still trying to make connection for Amaenbo, Momo no hanabira, Shabondama and Sakuranbo |

^ Momo no Hanabira...this might be a stretch but isn't there a moment when the little boy falls down from the sky into grass? He reminded me of the little pixie-like creature at the beginning of the PV, who wanders around in the green.
Anyway, the cartoon is very refreshing. And I'm amazed by all you observant people. |

Firstly...yangirl wrote: wow^^ your prediction's very right^^ you have such a good imagination [...] wonder if we could link Yumekui to all ai-chin PVs^^ Thanks, yangirl!
I've been looking at all the videos--let's see how it's coming...
I'm excited that others have also been spotting the new references, some obvious and some not so much.
I'm particularly grateful for yangirl posting about the Kuroge heart match-up and smacking-parallel from Biidama [I was afraid I was grasping at straws there, or just seeing things after watching the PV so many times... Glad to see I'm not alone... ].
Great screen caps, too! (Hope you don't mind, I quoted them here so as to have a full set of PVs...)
I think that's the only way to go about some of these... A picture's worth a thousand words, right?
Most of these have been brought up before (and eyn mentioned some as well upon uploading the full PV). Just thought a cumulative re-cap couldn't hurt. Those plus a couple more theories from me for your consideration.
I apologize for the presence of subtitles... Those are the only versions I have of the PVs at the moment...
Here goes:
~ ~ Yumekui PV: The Full Theory ~ ~
Momo no Hanabira: dragonfly that becomes the girl's hair & bow
I believe this was first brought up by bkah. The insects are all over the place in the PV, but I think many forget them in favor of the adorable peach guys...
Sakuranbo: poster of cherries
...in the center of the screen, on the building wall.
Amaenbo:
Now, there is the simple fact of a dog appearing in both PVs:
But I think a stronger (and more lyrical) connection is through the circles/spots of light (pollen?) emitting from the flowers. Upon re-watching the PV for Amaenbo, I immediately connected them with the points of lights which appear and swirl around Ai and her love interest when they hug at the end. (You can see the dots even better when the glare of the sunlight hits the camera...)
Happy Days: Animated Ai in a hot air balloon w/ pink megaphone
Even the same costume!
Kingyo Hanabi: tiny goldfish swim out when some fireworks explode
This was one of the first references I spotted and eyn was kind enough to provide a screen cap in the OP. Here it is again:
Daisuki dayo.: the boy's dream, particularly the hand-holding
Others have brought this up [hmm... bkah again...?] and there is definitely a connection as both show two people in love spending time together, playing around. The hand-holding struck me the most because of the text at the beginning of the Daisuki dayo. PV which describes the importance of hands and the fact that Ai is holding her dead boyfriend's hand throught the whole piece.
Kuroge Wagyu Joshio Tanyaki 680 Yen:
The fuzzy heart door was brought up above [swapped order for continuity purposes...]:
...but I also thought of this PV when the boy falls. This reminded me of the very end of Kuroge when the man finally eats the tongue and immediately falls through the floor! Between the two some-what stretched references, I think we have a connection...
SMILY:
This one I'm really not as sure about, but it is the only thing I can find... Upon panning across the strange dream-town, we see a building with chicken men and a creature made of stacked rounds holding a mallet. I'm guessing that the chicken men are the famous Polynesian men of the PV. They still are flexing their muscles, but seeing as they are now part chicken and mulitcolored, they no longer need to do the chicken dance or wear the bright colored shirts or leis. As for the other being, he could be explained as a stack of smiley*switch*frowney faces, with the mallet representing the stick used in the watermelon-smashing game. Also, the fact that they are grouped together in one building is some-what supportive as well...
Neko ni Fuusen: sign for 'cat&balloon'
Some have compared the microphone/vine thing to the tree from Neko, but seeing as the growing object has been confirmed by the full PV to be a microphone with what looks like a vine wrapped around it, I left it out in favor of the can't-get-more-staightforward sign.
Planetarium: Animated Ai as the Statue of Liberty
...complete with original PV costume, pinwheel for a torch, and circling stars. This was the other of the original references and eyn's screen shots:
Frienger: Animated Ai (+ others) on scooter(s)
Interestingly enough, Animated Ai here is wearing the jacket from the beginning of the PV which she doesn't wear while riding... Plus the scooter featured is the one from the cover, not the blue one she rides in the PV... --not to be nit-picky or anything, considering they're references, not direct cut-and-paste...
~~As for the Bonus PVs:~~
Shabondama:
Another with shaky standing, but the camera pans down over a bridge w/ cross-ties (before we see the Neko sign) that reminded me of the structure on which Ai stands in the PV.
Other than that, the only thing which stood out to me was Shabondama's fisheye-lens shot of a corner block which is a similar location to the intersection from the Yumekui dream-town town shot where we see the creatures. Either one is rather tenuous at best, tho...
Kataomoi Dial: heart bubble
...bears a striking resemblance to LOVE-chan's unrequited love message running through the phone line--especially when it is *just* about to break free...
Friends: Tokyo Tower
Though this could just be for the Tokyo Friends movie, since we're talking PVs here, it also works as a throw-back to the clip-PV put together for Friends -Sabakan ver.. Here's also the shot of the Tower used so often in the drama:
Biidama: boy getting smacked by Animated Ai
Again, beautifully captured by yangirl above.
...and last, but by far not least....
Cherish: girl at window; Animated Ai in TV and singing at standing microphone
Whew! This one seems to be the mother load! While the style of microphones were very different, I still agree that it's a good connection.
Well, I hope these made sense to you all--and that I didn't bore you all to tears...
I like to organize my thoughts, so thank you for indulging me!
Let me know what you think. I can always add more...
[Though of course we don't want to run Yumekui into the ground... ]
Thank you, eyn, for the important-sounding title and link!
And thank you also to Lainay, for the adorable Yumekui-inspired emoticon!

That's some mad observation and imagination there, zyzzyva, way too awesome! Your posting looks so pretty with all those proper text formatting, pictures and explanation, I have a great time reading those connection with her older PVs and I agree with you on all of them. Some are really not so obvious but you still manage to find the connection, that's pretty amazing. For example, I would have never been able to find those connections with Momo no Hanabira, Shabondama, Biidama etc. without explicit evidence like this. I guess I'm not pro enough when it comes to Ai-chin's PV, maybe I should really watch them again to regain my familiarity with them.
This is just a beautiful piece of work explaining the connection with other PVs, I've yet to see any Japanese to blog about this information yet, maybe they are afriad of using copyrighted screenshots, or maybe they just haven't gotten serious about finding all the connections.
I'll link to you post in the main page of this topic with a nice title saying "Yumekui PV: The Full Theory"! |

Well, if you wanted all the references to be as blatant as the Frienger one I think the PV'd be very dull.
Those noted above are references/connections to the previous PVs. Not all are cameos or literal 'product-placements' (honestly, couldn't we've had a kitty walking around the town area instead of the sign...?).
One could even say that by this PV being animated the whole thing is a throw-back to her love for art/graphic design, LOVE-chan, and the previous computer-animated PVs.
I like to look at the points of connection as a kind of collection/archive of themes/imagery to which Ai is drawn.
Take the spots of light from both Amaenbo and Yumekui. They have re-appeared circling Ai's beehive hairdo in CHU-LIP. |
