Hi guys, it's been SO LONG since a topic has been created here!!!
Anyhow, I've been thinking, Otsuka Ai always composes and sings her own sings, and insists on doing so. It wasn't until the Tokyo Friends OST where she HAD to cover another artists work... which inspired me to think about what other songs would people like to see her do....
My choice is for Otsuka Ai to cover Shuji to Akira's - Seishun Amigo.
I chose this song because Seishun Amigo is a really awesome song, and I seriously mean it when I say I sometimes imagine Otsuka Ai getting up and dancing and singing to the song..... she would be so so cute!! Her high voice makes it even better in my opinion.
So what song do YOU want Otsuka Ai to cover? Don't forget to give reasons! |

^That would be awesome, plus that's an awesome song as well. Yamapi = <3
I would like Ai to cover Love~Destiny~ by Ayu. Because I like that song, and because I think it's cool if Ai covered an Ayu song. I would also like Ai to cover Hoshi no Suna by Gackt, but Gackt's vocal range is quite low...so it might just sound wierd...
Actually, I could totally see Ai singing HONEY by Ayu or Angel's song by Ayu. Those are just really cute XD |

Without a doubt, I would definitely want Ai to cover Hitoto Yo's Hanamizuki. Well, there were two others I considered, but I think this song suits her just fine. It's a very relaxing love song that makes me feel warm inside everytime I hear it.
Perhaps it's closest to Planetarium. There is a part for piano, so I'm sure Ai could play that as well... Yeah, I can imagine her singing this. [I forgot all about Hitoto Yo.. ] |

nice choice celcius, actually its funny you mention that song, did you know that if Ai decide to cover Hanamizuki, she wouldn't be the first famous artist to do so. Hirai Ken has also done a cover of that song. Have you heard it?
If I were to pick a song fo Ai to cover, perhaps I'd like to hear her do classics like Distance by Hikki or anyone here heard Ritsuko Okazaki's For Fruits Basket album? Any of the songs from there, in fact, any of Ritsuko Okazaki's songs would suit Ai I think.

I've never known this, though it's not too surprising. Hanamizuki seems like one of those all time classics that just can't be turned away. It's been used for dramas and such already, so it was only a matter of time until someone would end up covering it. Indeed, I can imagine Hirai Ken singing it... I should check that out sometime. Thanks! [That's really interesting... *ponders*] |

Since I don't know much about other J-Pop artists, I will recommend English songs. --Though I have heard Gackt's piano-driven ballad "星の砂" (from his album "Crescent") and would love to hear Ai do it in a similarly-raw style.
Anyway, while thinking about this topic, Australian songstress Delta Goodrem immediately sprang to mind. She's also a talented pop artist and well-trained pianist with a way of simple lyrics (for better or worse...). And I used to be obsessed with her the way I'm now obsessed with Ai-Chin--probably more so!
Speficially, I think Delta's "Lost Without You," Butterfly," "Be Strong," and "Electrical Storm" would all suit Ai-chin's style in one way or another.
Also, anything by Des'ree, like "You Gotta Be" or "Life" would be very nice. And for some reason, I think Ace of Base's "Lucky Love" would fit her to a T.
Finally, while contemplating this topic, I had the horrifying image of Andrew W.K. covering "Sakuranbo" . The sad part is it would probably work!
(Compared to, say, 'Party Hard" or "Ready to Die," they have similar energy and arrangement styles, no?)
Edit: Yay Youtube. |

| I want to hear her do a cover of "Reila" by the GazettE!! Lol, it would be very funny to see her running around while yelling "REIIIIIIILLLLLA--this voice does not reach you!!" But for a song she would really sing, I would choose "BeaM" by ZONE since it is such a happy song. |

| That's a very good question, HillaryDuffFanboy. I've been very much into the covers this summer ever since I listend to Tanya Chua's renditions of 'Yellow' and 'Drops of Jupiter'. Haha, I'd actually probably through her somewhere she doesn't belong just to see what she does with it. I chose Shiina Ringo's Identity because the sheer energy is still there but the voice and vibe that Ai is used to is going to have to bend a little to make it work, or make it her own. Now, let's go to a magical land where Ai speaks english. Why, I'd have her singing Tamia's Officially Missing You so fast your head would spin. I'm sure Ai-chin's tender ballad voice would do this song great justice. |

| Well... I would really like to hear her version of the Doraemon theme. I think her voice really fit this song and I am sure that she will make a good cover of the original. |

Hmmm maybe Konayuki from Remioromen... The lead singer and Ai both have high voices so maybe that would be perfect.
Or maybe..... ANYTHING FROM THE JOHNNY'S! I'd die if she covered a song from Arashi or NEWS or KAT-TUN. I'd seriously die. |

I was originally going to say that I think that Ai is wonderful without covering other artist's songs, but then I read the first post, and I agree with HDF; Seishun Amigo is a really good song, and it would be fun to hear Ai-chan doing a cover of it. Japanese Girl would also be an interesting song, although it might be a bit to electronic for Ai-chan's style. |
