Since this is the forum for Asian Music, I thought why not have a thread about Indian Music. India being the vast country it is, has an equally vast music culture; ranging from hindi film songs to Urdu kawalis to regional folk music to the contemporary Punjabi music.

The Indian film industry has been the platform for much of the Indian music throughout the 20th century and henceforth in the 21st. And it is quite diverse in it form. Though most of the contemporary films incorporate Punjabi mixes or popular style songs, the real essence of Indian music lies in its folk songs, classical music and "old" film songs.

Personally, I do not categorise myself as a lover of only one genre. Whatever is good music, is good to me. But I do admit that I particularly like old hindi film songs. They were so melodious, had wonderful stories to tell, had depth, and of course had a nice ring to it. Some of my personal favourite are, Khoya Khoya Chand, Pukarta Chala Hoon Main, Tumne Mujhe Dekha, all of which are sung by the infamous Mohammad Rafi.

Another type of Indian music that I like is called "kawali" music. It is essentially a product of the Muslim culture with its own Indian touches of course. Modern day "popular" kawalis can heard in songs like "Tumse Milkar" from the film "Main Hoon Na".

However, there is of course a couple of contemporary songs that I totally love. The soundtrack to the movie Rang De Basanti are brilliant. Songs by the Strings and Euphoria are also amazing. A couple of songs from the movie Bluffmaster are also good. But these have a quite modern rock or pop feel to them.

The most unique aspect of Indian Music has to be "Classical Music"! This genre includes ancient style music patterns with classical Indian instruments like the tabla, sitar, bansuri, tanpura, sarod, etc. This kind of music has an aura of peace and serenity attached to it. My brother has a nice post on his blog about classical music and even has a couple of songs up on his radio. (link here)

So minna, has anyone here heard any type of Indian music? If not is anyone interested? Love to share my collection of Indian music. It really is as rich as it sounds! ^_^

----

also, if anyone wants to taste a little Indian music, chk out my homepage... look for songs from Rang De Basanti or by Mohammad Rafi ^_^

indian classical music is awesome! especially the flute, follow the link in the first post to go to my site and read the entry which comes with two pieces of indian classical. on my radio I also have two songs by A.R.Rehman, my favourite Indian composer/singer/songwriter/music director... dude does everything, check them out!

as for the old songs that nish was talking about, i'm pretty sure she had a few of the ones she mentioned on her blog ichigo. just scroll down the radio blog to find three songs by Mohammad Rafi on it.

Bollywood is like SOOO FAMOUS here in germany. Like everyone knows Shah Rukh Khan (ok I'm bad at spelling). My indian fever begun last year when I first watched Khabi Khushi Khabi Gham with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and I couldn't stop crying in the end. Love

I still have Indian fever though I can't really watch a lot, because of my schedule. I was so happy when I met Nish here in channel-ai because I saw that she came from India.

The soundtrack from K3G is like so cool. I used to memorize it but now I forgot some words. Ok I don't understand them without the subtitles but never. The songs are so beautiful. Believe me and Nish and Horizon.

Suraj Huad Madhamm is so beautiful. Ahhh... When I listen to eat I feel so in love. Kajol and Shah Rukh just acted so well they've become my favorite stars. Unfortunately I heard Kajol quit acting already to concentrate on her family. How sad.

I like Aishwara Raith ( I'm sure I mispelled the name again) Is cool too. When I watched the movie Mohabbatein I cried waterfalls. Crying She's so good. My favorite song from Mohabbatein is Zindha Rehti (wrong spelling , I know). Such a cool beat especial the very beginning where the drums come in.

I have learned quite much about the Indian culture and man do they have really admirable values especially when it comes to honor, family and pride. Watching too much Bollywood gives me such a wonderful Idea about India.

The only thing I might not be able to like is the food. I saw an Indian documentary, which I watched till the end (Of course it's about India) and I saw how an Indian woman crushed a small pack of pure red chili and mixed it in a small casserole of food. That's like 15 chili's I think. Now that is spicy and I might not be able to eat it.

Ok I know I spoke too much which is why I'm ending my story here... but expect more of me people because I LOVE ASIA! Love

Its so cool that you like Indian stuff....
And don't worry about the spellings...writing hindi words in english usually brings a varied interpretation... But Shah Rukh Khan you spelled right....

You should also try watching Rang De Basanti and Black
Also try some older movies as well.
If you like Shah Rukh Khan you will definitely like Kal Ho Na Ho
As for Kajol... she was on a long break indeed but she recently came in a new movie called Fanaa

I would suggest you try watching Iqbal..... Hum Tum..... Dil Chahta Hai for sure.
Aamir Khan... Saif Ali Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are brilliant actors to watch out for.
As for Ashwaria Rai... I will refrain since I don't really like her that much...
acting wise I would vote for Rani Mukherjee and Kajol or even Preity Zinta.

One of Kajol's older films is Dil Wale Dhulania Le Jaenge (The person of the heart will take away the bride) It is nice long love story.

If you wanna try art movies.. then watch 15 Park Avenue.... Split Wide Open.... Page 3.... definitely Mr. and Mrs Iyer
There is loads to choose from!

Old movies also... my favourite is Chupke Chupke and Teesri Manzil.
Teesri Manzil (3rd Floor) is a great movie... its a suspense mystery... and you wont know the killer till right at the end. And the songs of that movie are brilliant.
Then another old classic hindi movie is Love in Tokyo. Its shot in Tokyo... has famous songs and actors and actresses.

-------------------------------

As for food.... Indian food is not that spicy... it depends on who makes it... we like it HOT.. yes
But in restaurants its not that hot.
Its really delicious... you should definitely try it! Nod ^_^

God this is a long post Tongue

I've seen Kal Ho na Ho.... I think that was the Film before K3G. Ahh... Shah Rukh had to die in the end. Crying So sad... I like the Indian Version of Pretty Woman... So cool.

Ok so I have to be watching out for Fanaa here in Germany. I have seen Hum Tum and I actually thought they'd never see each other again but thank heavens they did. Love Now sharing an umbrella in the rain is like the sweetest thing I have ever heard of. I love Amitabh Bachan. He portrays his roles very well.

I have seen Dil Wale Dhulania Le Jaenge. It's personally one of my favorite films. And the songs.... The songs are so beautiful. I like The song with the same title. And Meri Khuabon. I forgot the title of the other songs... whic is such a bummer. Love

I like Pretty Zinta too but I really Love Kajol. After Kuch Kuch Hota Hai... I was like so addicted to Kajol. I love the song with the same title and kept singing it for like so many times.

I also like Koi Mil Gaya with Pretty Zinta and Hritik Roshan. That'S like so cool. I loved that film. Hritik portrayed his role so well. But I think the film was more like E.T.

Another great Film would be Devdas. The ending is so sad. Poor Shah Ruhk ... just couldn't get over Aishwara. So he died not even considering the love of that other woman.

Main Hoon Na is so funny. The fight scene was so like the Matrix. Wait... Even better. But I didn't really like the leading lady.

Now VeerZaara. That is like soo good. I cried and cried. It was such a beautiful love story. Yash Chopra is a genius. Love It shows no matter where you come from ... even if you're from Pakistan or India love still rules. What a beautiful moral. The songs were just breathtaking. I forgot the titles though. Rani Mukherjee is so good here. Isn't she the cousin of Kajol?!

Ok once more... I talked to much. Love I will come back for more.

And I'm sure to watch Teesri Manzil. Love
