i thin you can try adjusting the coding for your browser. check the auto select on the view --> encoding if you're using IE. anyway, you can try downloading the language pack from microsoft if you still can't see. hope it helps (: |

Hey,
Either (View-> Character Ecoding - Firefox)
Also setting 'Auto-Detect' to Japanese may help.
"Unicode (UTF-8)"
"Japanese(Shift_JIS)"
"Western (ISO-8859-1)"
Should work, my browser's default is western, but when it messes up I switch to Japanese shift and it seems to work fine.

i finally figured out how to type in japanese, with the help of del of course!
thanks again for your help!
once you have enabled the language bar, i think i right clicked on the taskbar and told it to display the language bar, because it wasnt before. i dont have my windows xp disc either because my laptop came with xp already installed!
i just went into control panel, went to regions and languages(or something like that) and tracked my way through there until i installed the east asian packs, and restarted. then, i enabled the language bar(and told it to display on the desktop)and eventually figured out to right click on the taskbar and tell it to show up. now it's on my taskbar, and i can tell it to do japanese whenever i want it to!
if you need an actual walkthrough, we could probably help you .::carlito::;
i was just trying to remember what i did, but that was awhile ago. i hope it was some sort of help to you!
also, i find this program quite helpful.
by the way, your name is really cool! |

Thank you about my name , it's a good name, but not my real name lol. I'll try this trick you'll told me, hopefully it will work once for and all. Thanks alot. Much appreciated! Yea a walkthrough would be nice to make things much easier and clearer. I'm starting to learn my Japanese, really complicated stuff. |

lol, yeah, are you learning in school? poor me, i live in the middle of nowhere, so im teaching myself with the internet and books! i think the local college has japanese, but i dont think they'll accept a 14 year old
ok, on to the walkthrough.
go into control panel on your computer,
then click on the regional and language options.
when you get there, click on the languages tab. there should be 2 little sections to that.
on the bottom section, there are 2 little checkboxes, if you cant view japanese text, im going to assume that they are unchecked,
check them, or just the second i have only the second checked and i can see japanese.
you may have to restart your computer for it to take affect. that should let you at least view japanese,
if you want to be able to type in japanese, thats gonna take a longer explanation, so i'll only do that if you need it. if you do need it, feel free to ask! |

Good. Learning Japanese takes a lot of time and patience. We also have a harder time learning new languages as we get older, so the younger you start, the better.

You can learn it by yourself, but you need to practise with Japanese people. If you don't know any you can meet with in person, I would suggest finding some penpals you can email. There are lots of Japanese people who want to practise English, so you can take turns practising English and Japanese with them.
Check out the classifieds on japan-guide.com. You can search for people by location, so try to find Japanese people who live near you. If you can't find any, contact some people who live in Japan. I met many people through that site; I had a chance to practise my Japanese, and a couple of those people became good friends.
Also, if you are a native English speaker, I highly recommend James Heisig's Remembering the Kanji. It's an excellent way to learn many kanji very quickly, and it has helped me a lot with life in Japan. If you decide to buy that book, check out this awesome site too: Reviewing the Kanji, designed for reviewing the material in that book. You'll be surprised how quickly you can learn kanji! |

Well I can handle the Japanese, but not with a lot of homework killing my back. I want to kill those paperwork! |

I have a question. Will these programs work with windows media player or the Zune marketplace with tags? Like, displaying japanese or other languages, I know Itunes displays japanese by simple copy/paste, but Windows Media Player doesn't, instead it displays blocks.
I'm investing in a Zune media player, although the program at the moment does not display japanese, and I mainly listen to japanese music. Will it display if I manually type it in?
Thanks,
Rokit |

itunes doesn't display japanese by copy and paste for me!
you could install east asian languages pack off the windows xp cd...i am guessing most stuff should be able to read japanese characters on your computer if you do that, but i can't guarantee it since i haven't tried.
*EDIT*
ok i finally installed east asian languages. it seems itunes has no problems with japanese now. (it also reads korean too!) so before i installed the pack itunes couldn't do this but it is fine now.
and thanks to the others on this thread...i can type in japanese. only i'm still new to this concept so getting the right kanji and such is a little confusing. |

at last i've gotten rid of all of those questionmarks! and it wasn't that hard either....
though i have problem with the IME, since there seems to be some problem with Office XP on this computer. and the cd is nowhere to be found. and that NJStar stuff didn't work. and the other program someone posted couldn't be found. too bad... |
