What's worse than 100,000 units at launch? How about 80,000? The Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition reports today that due to component shortages, Sony will have only 80,000 units ready for the PS3's 11/11 Japanese launch. This cuts back by a fifth the initial launch target of 100,000.
The lack of digits in that number is even more staggering when you consider that the PS2 sold out of nearly a million units when it launched back in March of 2000.
Having lived through a few weeks of attempting to obtain a PS3 pre-order, we're not too surprised by the lowered shipping numbers. Allocations disappeared quickly at online retailers that were brave enough to start pre-order programs. The online arm of media retailer Tsutaya ran out of units in 6 minutes according to Nikkei (it felt more like 1 minute to us).
Major electronics chains like Yodobashi Camera won't be taking pre-orders, Nikkei reports, so there's only one option left: line up the day before launch. Although with fewer units to go around, we're considering getting in line starting from the week prior.

I think the PS3 is a waste of money. They are charging a ridiculous price for the dang thing, what happened to those days when it was about the video game, and not graphics? Yeah, great graphics are good to have, but the game itself is more valued then graphics. I think. I swear, now these days, systems are competing against "OMG who has the BEST GRAPHICS!"
I believe Nintendo Wii is the system worth getting. They are the ones actually taking the next step.
Just my thoughts on everything. |

| It's one of the top inventions of 2006, according to the TIME Magazine issue that I got in the mail yesterday XD The price is $600, which is around what I thought it would be....the games are $60. I'm glad that the price of the games themselves haven't jumped to the gossiped prices on the net (some forums were talking about up to $90 for games), though IMO the system itself is rather expensive. I think $400-$500 would be reasonable (which is the price of the XBOX 36O). |

I'm really confused by this release. I read somewhere that there are two configurations? One is a 20gb basic and the other a 60gb premium?! 
Can anyone explain to me simply what they've done to make the PS3 better than the PS2? Or maybe point me in the direction of some links that explain things in layman's terms?
I'm not planning on buying one until the price goes down, and until I absolutely HAVE to in order to keep playing Final Fantasy, but I'm really curious about it. |

| Hope this PS3 can make impact. I would really like to see the Final Fantasy games on there. Too bad they're not making a FF7 rerun. I wonder how the PS3 controllers work. |

Aren't the controllers wireless?
I do agree with Rokit in the sense that gaming is the most important factor rather than just keep improving the graphic yet done little on the gaming part. I haven't see PS3, but my expectation is not as high as when i am waiting for PS2's release. |

well good thing is the more people buy the better price will drop hehe =D sit back relax , wait for few months before buying the price will be cheaper and of course u dun have to queue =D just wait for command and conquer 3:tiberium war to launch ,for now play ur PS2 and COM ^_^
I dun really care about what version or limited edition .AS long i get to play my GAME!(even if the game is pirated) sad to say but i support piracy(imitations)
for me PS3 of course i will get it , but next year is my national exam so i gonna get it after my national exam <which is 10 monts away> and of course by that time i buy...there would already have PIRATED GAME *Cheers* who knows hehe

relax dude sooner or later u will get the ps3 too or maybe better versions since even japan is having shortage i think when ps3 lauch at america it gonna be worse  in singapore i don't think you even have to queue for ps3 -_- ;;

Look at xbox360 , its graphic is already great but PS3 is better , and it i was said that during gameplay the graphic is as good as CG rendered(those super cool cut-scene u see in final fantasy) and the 20gb and 60gb , not really any big difference , u still get to play ur game ^_^ |

With you all the way. The silver case was misleading since i thought it would be more slick and all with the compacted slim ps2. I heard it would do alot of things like going on the net and stuff so maybe slightly thicker than ps2. It ended up being so chunky. The games currently released have good graphics but the gameplay was horrible. Eg. Gundam
Wii has stayed true to serving its purpose- a console
the ps3 is now becoming a magnified mobile phone without the phone service |
