I'm starting to like ballads more now that I'm listening to Ai's Kingyo Hanabi and Planetarium. However, I still prefer fast beat songs like Happy Days, Smily, and Bitama.

I like both types in general.
It depends on my mood, sometimes a calm or sad ballad can do the job for me, but other times i definetely need my upbeat songs Smile
I really love Hitomi Shimatani's traditional-techno crossover upbeat songs, they really make my mood. Happy Days is also a classic. Tongue
As for ballads, I think Ai has so beatiful ones.

same as spirus and a_r3n, it would depend on my mood most of the time. it's very difficult to choose whether i like fast beat or ballad just like that.

Depends on my mood too. When I'm down or angry I prefer either ballad or rock songs. Ayumi's songs fit perfectly for this.

Otherwise I'll just listen to anything, upbeat or ballads, doesn't really matter.

It depends the mood of the day.
If that day feel like want to rock the world, fast beat music will come into mind especially ayutrace or ayu-mi-x but if that day everything was so in rush especially all the assignments due or presentations, a ballad will do, here are those selected ballads that i usually listen:

Ayumi:
1. Heaven
2. Moments
3. Walking Proud
4. Hanabi

BoA:
1. Merrykuri
2. We
3. Tree
4. Every Heart

Ai Otsuka:
1. planetarium
2. kingyo hanabi

....and many more

I like any song that is catchy no genre for me cause it's weird and a bit close-minded. As long as the song is catchy it's fine with me ^__^

well, my favourite songs tend to be the ballad ones (or softer ones). especially ai-chin's.

but i think i listen to more fast beat songs anyway. Tongue i mean, ballads are really nice and beautiful and all that, but it gets a bit boring just to listen to slow songs. that's why i listen to more fast beat songs since i like getting hyped and pumped up and do stupid dances when walking down the streets (yes, people are looking, Blank stare but i don't care Laughing).

for me..it all comes down to the artist and the tune of the song. I like both ballads and hip hop..
