| If I find my microphone for my computer I'm actually gonna enter it this year XD Granted, I suck at singing worse than some of the worst on American Idol, but hey, I'm sure someone will at least get some kind of entertainment from it (laughter probably) XD But hey, might as well go for it, right? XD |

| Listening to the song while the instrumental plays seems sensible. It always seems like artists when recording their songs have headphones on so maybe they're listening to the song to get it right. |

well, since they're recording the song when they're recording the song there isn't any singing to listen to. they use headphones when they record to record the song without any music in the background so that they can mix it and stuff. |

| That's true. I've always wondered why they wear headphones.. |

I'm not sure about this but I always thought they are listening to the instrumental track while recording the song. There are several reasons why they do that, according to my speculation:
- To get the pitch right
- To get the tempo right
- To blend their voice into the instrumental better
- To have a better feel of the song so they can put in more emotion
It's kinda similar to the way how they sing their lives. There is music in the background, and you start to feel the song starting from the intro, prepare yourself, and sing along with the music. Just my 2 cents though, this really has nothing to do with the karaoke contest, maybe a little. My suggestion would be to sing along with the instrumental track while recording (see reasons why you should do this above), but do not record the instrumental (you should use a headphone), only your own vocal. Then blend your vocal with the instrumental track (adjust the timing, volume, but not pitch) using software for best quality. |

I really can't wait to hear what some of the members here are capable of. I listened to one of the members so far and she was sounding great! Much as I wish her luck, I wish everyone else good luck as well! |

| carlito, do you mean that member shared her entry with you? Because I don't think that's a good idea; knowing that member's entry can lead to unintended bias. I don't know how eyn is planning to format this year's contest, but last year the names weren't given out until after the contest and there's a reason to that. |

I see no problem with hearing a contestant before the contest.
Actually, you guys will know each others voices from last year's contest anyway.
So that bias can't be helped. |

I heard some of last year's entries and a lot of them are very nice.
I'm a newbie and I've never recorded anything so I dunno if I'll try but this sounds fun good luck to everyone who's entering! |
