Hi guys, it's been some time since I introduce new feature for the forum, hopefully you guys are not bored of not having suprises. Anyway, I just added a rather simple mod for this phpBB forum, it's the RSS feed feature.
I'm not sure if any of you know what RSS is, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. It really doesn't mather if you don't know what it means, the problem is do you know how to use it? There are some RSS feeds reader out there available for you to download and use them to read RSS feeds from various sites, personally I have never really tried any of them so I can't give you comment on any of them. I'll just give you some idea what you can do with RSS feeds:
Using RSS as Live Bookmark
I'll be using Firefox as my example on how to setup live bookmarks in the browser. First of all, you have to know where is the RSS feed located at. For this forum, the RSS feed is available here. Don't be panic if you can't understand the code, those are for browsers to read, not you. Copy the URL into clipboard and open up your bookmark manager via: Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks..., then follow the animation below:
Drag the newly created live bookmark into any folder you want, for my case, it looks like this:
All the latest posting should show on the list expanded beside the bookmark. Hopefully you find it useful and you can use similar method to import RSS feeds from any other websites.
Use Firefox Extension - Sage, as your RSS Reader
Subscribe to RSS Using Web-based RSS Reader
You can easily add Channel-Ai Forum RSS feed to your favourite web-based RSS reader by clicking on the appropriate button below:
Personally, I recommend Bloglines since it provides "caching" of the feeds such that if you are away for a certain period, once you logged on to Bloglines you can see how many new items are posted since your last visit. I have no idea how many item in total they will cache though. Anyway, it's still better than having no cache at all. |

I have recently changed the format of the RSS feeds title to include poster ID and hopefully it works better now, i.e. more useful.
If any of you prefer the RSS feeds to show the last 15 topics instead of last 15 postings, you can set GET variable t=1, just like this: Code: http://www.channel-ai.com/rss.php?t=1
Also, the total number of returned title can be changed. If you want say, only the last 10 topics to be shown in your RSS, you can add the GET variable "c=10" into the php file. You can get as much as 50 topics returned to your RSS each time.
To combine both GET variables, you need to use operator &, for example:
Code: http://www.channel-ai.com/rss.php?t=1&c=10
I think you guys can get the idea. Have fun with your RSS feeds now! |

Okay, this topic is like seriously dead but anyway here's a convenient way to check the latest Ai-chin news if you're an RSS user. Add the following URL to your RSS reader and it will show you the last 20 latest topic in Ai's News forum. This should make it easier for you to keep up to date with Ai-chin's news even if you don't have the time to check the forum thoroughly. For those regular posters, I don't think you'll need this too much.
Here's the RSS feed link for Ai's News forum: http://www.channel-ai.com/news
Here's a screenshot showing how it will look like when you subscribe to this feed using Netvibes (you can use any other RSS reader of your choice). Notice the feed on the right hand side is the regular feed i.e. http://www.channel-ai.com/rss
