I'm really surprised to know that she'll be having an "Ai am BEST Tour", I thought the BEST album alone is what we will get but now there's another tour! Honestly, Ai-chin's schedule has became less and less predictable. Everything seems so out of place right now and I'm not sure why they keep postponing the release of her 4th studio album. She has so many songs prepared, and I'm sure many of them are already recorded, but yet they decided to do this BEST of thing as if it's gold. What fans really want isn't revisiting her older materials by instead we want to explore what Ai-chin has to offer in this exciting new year!

I'm really quite disappointed with the announcement of this tour. I think it's really unnecessary and she should have released more new songs this year to make up for the time she dedicated to "Tokyo Friends" last year. 2004 and 2005 was really exciting with photobooks and new songs coming out every few months but now all this BEST of promotion is really disappointing and I really think they overemphasize the BEST compilation as if it's the end of her career.

Sorry for ranting about this news. I'm just disappointed with the way they organizes all these, perhaps it has something to do with Ai-chin switching her manager (or she just happen to have yet another manager?). Why doesn't the Daisuki dayo guy stay around and organize stuff the way he used to? No

^There's usually a tour for every best album (ie: Ayu's Dome Tour after A BEST, BoA's arena tour after BEST OF SOUL and Kuu's Zepp tour after ~first things~) so I think this was pretty predictable.

Hmmm she's going back to the hall tour like she did in her 1st tour. I think it's because the arenas are already booked by at least 3 artists (BoA - April; Ayu - May; EXILE - May to July).

I agree with eyn. The long wait better be worth it!

I do not think the fact that the arenas are booked is the reason why is not performing in the big places... It isnt as if the other artists are playing there all the time.....

Rather, I think it is because the style of Otsuka Ai is much better suited to halls and smaller arenas. The larger arenas are more suited artists like Ayu and BoA who have lots of choreography and such. I know Utada Hikaru plays in big arenas, but if anyone has seen her shows, she has amazing lights shows and is really in a league of her own.

I REALLY HOPE Ai sings some B-sides that have never been sang before. But that is unlikely since it IS her AI am best tour... No

I understand what you mean, eyn.
I was surprised that there'd be a whole tour devoted to the Best album, considering (like I and others have said earlier) Ai's performed all these songs many times -- most in *both* of her previous tours...

As much as I disagree with the Japanese music industry's take on Best albums, though, I don't think they'll be changing the policy any time soon. Even if Ai herself objected, I doubt her avex contract would give her the option of not releasing one (or more).
Since I tend to be very critical (even of Ai), I've been trying to be optimistic regarding this whole Best-Of deal. Like, point out how great the PV DVD'll be -- so convenient! Nod (And anticipate the First Press Bonus. Giggle )

The other side of the Best album and tour is that despite the busy schedule of promoting and performing, it still is (in a way) a break for Ai. Nod

I think it was +Fumi who brought up how artists often just need time to collect their thoughts in order to create. (I know this is true for me...)
Seeing as Ai didn't have to write/compose anything new for the Best album, she could then use the time to write/compose for her 4th studio album or additional singles.
As others have said, perhaps when it came down to decide, her 4th album wasn't quite ready so they chose to release the Best first (Ai has said several times in interviews that she is a perfectionist when it comes to her music -- even after recording, she spends all her time in the studio figuring out the perfect mixes of sounds...).

Also, something to consider is how this is around the time of Ai and avex pushing LOVE-chan, with products and her own musical debut (<-- which, unless they're stupid, Ai will be writing and recording as well...)! LOVE chan

Yeah, much of her time last year was eaten up by Tokyo Friends (though her involvement *made* the series/movie...). But in an interview (sorry, I can't remember which one Embarassed ) Ai said she didn't really enjoy acting and wasn't planning on pursuing it further.
Drawing and other forms of graphic design, however, have always been a passion of hers. So LOVE-chan is taking off (and is a great success so far Love ) and Ai is branching out via A i O, her illustrator pen-name, and different design collaborations (Ai loves LOOK).

Try to give Ai the benefit of the doubt. Think of this as tying up loose ends and tiding us over until she can stun us with her fabulous 4th album work. Giggle
There's nothing wrong with more Ai, afterall... Love

Further, I think we may be more receptive of the tour when the setlist is made available. Nod

This came as a suprising news for me. I didnt expect a tour planned out so early, nor it being the Ai am BEST tour. But seeing from the scheldue, it seems most of the 1st half of 2007 is dedicated to the BEST album (except the single CHU-LIP). It might be a break in writing songs for ai-chin in a sense, but i think avex wants to push for the sales of the album using the tour, since its her 1st BEST album afterall. Setlist wise, I think its all pretty much the tracks in the album, more like a promotional tour for her BEST album imo.

So the 4th album probably have to wait.... No

on a side note, i *might* be able to go watch the performance since my vacation falls within the tour period.

im surprised! Ai am BEST album is an album with her hit singles songs in it rite, sort of compilation? then wouldnt the Ai am BEST concert be somewhat around the same as LOVE is born concert? maybe to spice up the concert abit, some of her song arrangement will change? i seriously don't know wad are they implementing to attract more fans to pay and go for this concert. because i am her fan and im already abit kind of put off by their idea of having a concert when her new album is actually a compilation of her hit singles.

but isnt ai am best album just a collection of all her singles? so if she goes on tour, she'll be using many of her old songs and incorporating them with some of the new?

I think she might include some of her 2006/2007 songs on her setlist. Like how Ayu included evolution, NEVER EVER, Endless sorrow and UNITE! in her concert but they weren't on her A BEST album. Some will appear as the regular setlist and others might appear as part of the encore.

That's fantastic news, +Fumi!!
(I'm so jealous... Evil Tongue Giggle )

I would definitely see if one of your relatives can reserve/pre-order you tickets, though, as soon as they can. I'm sure the Tokyo performances will sell out quickly, even if this is a Best Tour.

Try to take some pictures when you go -- I know you're not supposed to have a camera inside, but perhaps you can borrow a relative's camera phone and photograph the outside/signs/trucks/merchandise areas (i.e. whatever you can Laughing )...?
Also, bring as much money as you can afford, 'cause I'm sure there'll be some interesting and cute goods for sale, judging by past tour selections. Nod Boogie

That's so exciting! Love
Good luck!

^^ seem like most ppl here disappointing this BEST tour but I'm in the other side^^ I really wanna see another tour and yet another DVD to be release this late Aug or Sep (wanna see ai-chin running crazy on the stage haha^^) The name of the tour have told us more or less the setlist will be but there encore isn't it^^ I always love encore part^^ and love to see ai-chin does piano performances; Renai Shashin will be a good song to have a piano perf for it (though it not in BEST album tracklist)^^ Despite the fact that this show isn't much new songs to perform I think we can looking forward to ai-chin's performances and maybe there's something she wanna suprise us^^

but there encore isn't it^^
Yes, the encore is always great. Love
Yet the Ai am BEST!! tracklist only gives us 13 songs.
Now, judging by the trend of her past tours/concert, this is only about two-thirds of the setlist-- i.e. around seven songs short, *not* including the encore.
    JAM PUNCH Tour: 16 songs + Encore: 5 songs -- 21 total
LOVE COOK Tour: 20 songs + Encore: 5 songs (3x for Sakuranbo) -- 25 total
LOVE is BORN Concert: 20 songs + Missing Pocket -- 21 total
JAM PUNCH had fewer songs as it was her first tour, and LOVE is BORN was essentially one giant encore. Giggle I would assume that with Ai's ever-growing popularity that this new tour would more take after the wildly popular LOVE COOK Tour in design and scope...

We *could* guess that 4 of these spots will be assumed by the missing latest singles (Frienger, Yumekui, Renai Shashin, and CHU-LIP), but these could just as easily be saved for the encore. Nod Seems a bit silly, but what a powerful encore that'd be! Shocked Especially if the whole setlist ran chronologically! That'd certainly show Ai's growth throughout the years. Nod Love

But that still leaves a handful of songs...
B-sides come to mind, since the Best is essentially a Single collection, but besides maybe Natsuzora and Amai Kimochi Maru Kajiri (which is newer than the songs included), I'm not sure if the B-sides could be given under the exclusive title of "Best"... Blank stare
Anyone have any nominations/suggestions?

I'll definitely be waiting for the DVD version of this tour. It's too bad I can't go watch one of these concerts. Sadly I wouldn't even know how to get a hold of tickets even if I found the time to travel to Japan =(

I just hope Renai Shashin will be in the concert. I wouldn't mind seeing a live version of Chu-Lip (concert style, not TV appearance) just to see how that would go. I'd love to see some new songs ... actually I really want to hear "Pocket" the unreleased song that got cut from the LOVE Is Born dvd.

i don't know if i'll have other opportunities to "meet" Otsuka Ai in the future, so i'll try to go to AaB! besides this time she will sing in small arenas... Giggle ...she'llbe much closer to her fans

1)Probably i need someone in Japan who buy me the ticket or...is there any possibility to buy it thru internet? for example i could buy ticket in this way for the european Dir en Grey concert!! someone knows...???
2)usually when do they start selling tickets in Japan?? how many months/weeks before the day of concert !?
3)Do japanese fans feel annoyed by gaijin fans!? Laughing just be kidding

anyway thanks and goodnight (it's 3 a.m. here, so sorry for grammatic mistakes) Smile
