| XD don't kill me, everyone...but I'm all for Ayu. She's a very special artist and an angel in my eyes. Her music has helped me thru the bad times and made me smile when I was crying....it has had a bigger impact on me than anyone's ever has. I love her to death. |

but i do like Ai
let just say i view Ayu as a Queen and Ai as a Princess...but a princess will be a queen someday right?

Ayumi has been longer in the entertainment industry than Ai. She has released far more singles and albums than Ai. So it's hard to compare these two artists. Also Ayumi and Ai really differ from each other: image - songs etc.
These two artists just differ a lot from each other in many ways.
But I like to listen to Ai's songs. I don't listen to Ayumi, not my cup of tea. |

Honestly reading "a cartoon character who's choking on something" sounds so rude to any fan of Ayu. Would you like it if people would insult Ai? Think not. Please refrain from using these comments. It's not fun. Ayu's vocals are just different and deeper.
Also "writes way better"? Have you ever took some time to read Hamasaki's lyrics? Sure Ai's lyrics are quite good and fun, but to be honest personally I find them quite simplistic and not so groundbreaking. Hamasaki is known all over Japan for being a notable lyricist. Many fans have stated that they could relate to them on an emotional level and she was able connect with so many teens over Japan. "Seasons" won the Best Lyrics Prize at the Japan Record Awards in 2000. I'm not saying that Ayu's lyrics are superior but to say Ai's are "way better" sounds too far-fetched here...

Its all Ai for me.
she's really a good singer and has a unique voice.
her songs are a total hit for me.
her songs are catchy and really gets the emotions rushing..

Ayu was my first love. She helped me transition from just liking anime themes and having no idea who the artists were to actually listening to jpop. I've got all of her albums, way too many of her singles, and I think she's amazing.
Ai is, however, my favorite artist of all time. I love her ballads, I love her upbeat singles.. And god, that smile..
So yeah, I voted for Aichin. ^^ |

| my pick would have to be for ai...she was the very first japanese singer ive ever listened to! i think she's really starting to gain popularity, so hopefully one day, she'll be more famous that ayu! (even though ayu is still one of the best performers out there today) |

Never really read this topic because I didn't want to have to choose between two of the greatest Jpop artistes. But then again I figured I don't really listen to Ayu anyway, so Ai just wins hands down for me.  I do have a few of her songs, but I still haven't found any that touches me like Ai's music does. So yes, Ai is the queen in my heart! |

Ayumi Hamasaki can't sing that great IMO. I think she's overrated.((I still like her))
Ai Otsuka gets my vot though.^^ |

I wouldn't call it "can't sing that great" but vocals. I've got to say that her vocals are not the most impressive I've seen. But then I think the same can be said with Ai. Artists like Hitomi Shimatani/Kanon have superior and more beautiful vocals and more range.
And overrated? Maybe. Most popular artists get overrated even Ai. |

| Woah a tough choice! However, I voted for Ayu. She was the one that got me into J-Pop and I really love her even till now! But.. I really love both of them!! Sorry Ai-chin. v.v I still love Ai though. I love Ayu and Ai equally. ^^ |

I think Ai is better..she's lovely, cute, her voice is special and she's more beatiful than Ayumi (no offense to her fans).
I don't really like Ayu's style..I think her style is the one the typical diva, and her videos are boring (she doesn't have cats flying on ballons, friengers or little people fliying near tulips.. )
I repeat again: no offense to Ayumi's fans, but I think Ai is the real Queen of Jpop |
