My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:

I first found out about Ai Otsuka when I got a hold of the Love of NANA ~ Only One Tribute album. I listend to the song "Cherish" for days on end. To this day, it's my most favorite track on the album. But LOVE Cook came out around the same time. I wasn't overly impressed with the album. Don't get me wrong, there were good songs but I never really enjoyed the album at the time. Then the trailer for Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru came out with Renai Shashin playing in the background. I was astounded by the song and the voice sounded familiar. I find out the same say that Ai Otsuka is the one whom is singing to the song. From that time and on I wanted to listen to more of her stuff. ... Eventually I found her other ballads and was very impressed. After watching her concert DVDs I started to like her up-beat songs.

My definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
When I got her LOVE is Born DVD earlier this year. I had to watch it the very first night that I got it. The whole concert was great but what really got me hook, line and sinker was her performces of: 1."Happy Days" just the energy from everyone, first Ai which passed onto the band and the audience and they were all basically feeding off each other's energy. It made it an awesome live performance. Plus it great watching her run around with a megaphone.
2."Daisuki dayo" it may not have been her best performance of this song but the emotions from it nonetheless was great.
3.Encore performance of "Renai Shashin." Even I ended shedding a tear.

My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
I found Otsuka Ai through a recommendation by a friend. The first song I heard from her was "SMILY". I was immediately hooked! It was so catchy that I could not stop listening to it for days. Then, after watching the PV of the same song I decided that it was time to know more about this artist.

My definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment:

When I got to hear "Daisukidayo" for the first time I know I fell in love with this amazing artist. The other song that I also consider special to me is "Cherish". Both became my favorite Ai-chin songs. Ever since those two moments I started monitoring her releases, listening to her albums and watching her performances.

1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
Someone ,probably a penfriend, advised me to listen to this singer and so i browsed youtube looking for some PVs. I watched "kingyo hanabi" and immediately loved the song and PV , also i did notice her cute face. At first i mostly listened to her slow piano-driven songs as Natsusora or "Ame no Naka..." but wasn't completely sure about up-beat ones except Sakuranbo.

2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
That was after watching Jam punch DVD. First i found out she 's quite good at singing live...you can barely notice the difference compared to studio version. 2nd i was overcome by fast/kawaii songs, they have a particular energy/freshness when performed live so i often prefer live versions of frienger, happy days and so on

The last two years i have not had time to be on internet much as i work and go to uni, however last couple of months i have had some free time again so decided to update my music collection from round the world. I had first seen Bleach earlier this year and loved houki boshi, so first artist i searched for was younha and thought her stuff was really good, downloaded load of other new artists too and of course seen that namie, kumi, ayu etc. still doing the same kinda stuff i heard two years ago. apart from younha only other artist stood out was nakashima mika. i was happy with this thought both could sing had some good melodies (and were kawaii). Previously my favourite artists from east were Utada Hikaru and Faye Wong. Discovering another two good new artists seemed a good return to me.

the internet has enabled our generation to enjoy music from all round the world - giving an insight into the cultures of other peoples and nations. I also buy as much as i can and support artists now from other countries, as do my friends (who rely on me to keep them up to date!). my best ever result was a couple of year ago when i was having a listen to what was going on in swedish/scandinavian music - discovered a really good band called The Radio Dept. and then noticed that they were playing live in my home city a couple of weeks later! me and my friends got tickets and they rocked. (pause - while i dream about ai playing live in United Kingdom.)

My quick search through japanes music was finished then but there was loads of stuff i seen though was really funny, you shake your head and think "only in japan could they think to get away with things like akb48!", so before i deleted all the rejected stuff and moved on i put together a collection of funny pop stuff for me and my mates to have a laugh with, inc hinoi team - king kong, gyaruru etc, and in that collection was sakuranbo. next day my flatmate came home from work laughing and cursing me that sakuranbo was whirling about in his head all day - and i was the same, i decided to have another look at this otsuka ai - found i already had the pv of a song called happy days- and on first viewing when ai came tumbling out the car grabbed a megaphone and started singing, at that point i was hooked.

It was a close run thing - i nearly never discovered ai.

I still didn't have her listed as a potential great artist - just somethin bout that tumble and the megaphone said she is different.

so began a general download of ai stuff, and it was then gold was struck. First to hit was Kingyo Hanabi, suddenly here was a new artist - was this really the same girl as sings happy days! next Planetarium, after that i cannot now recollect the sequence all these thunderbolts hit me, as two months on i am still a little dazed.

"I've noticed Ai-chin moment":

my cousin had a picture of her as his dp on msn (a clip from the planetarium video) and I asked him who it was, and he told me "Ai Otsuka" so I was like oh okay a Japanese girl. :s I thought, maybe she's a model or actress. And then he sent me the song (a short ver. of planetarium) and said listen to her, she's good. So I was like oh okay. and gave it a listen. It didn't really capture me as strong or interesting, so I just said uhh yeah it's not that great of a song. Blank stare

But the next day it was stuck in my head.... I was trying to remember how the melody went as I was in class, and it got to the point that it was just bugging me so much that I wrote a reminder 'download "Ai Otsuka - Planetarium" later tonight!!' :0 So I did just that (I got the whole 5-min ver. this time and I was definitely more at ease. So then I found another song 'Sakuranbo', and I knew only a little Japanese back then...so I immediately assumed it had something to do with cherry tree, so I downloaded it and I was like, BLOWN AWAY. Oh noes Oh noes Oh noes I thought, wow they're the same girl? No way no way Surprised

"I love Ai-chin moment":

That was also the moment I decided "I LOVE THIS GIRL!!!!! Love Love Love " and then did a mass-download of her stuff. See, I can't really buy physical CD's from Japan here so I hax them from the internet Giggle Among the first stuff I download was "Kingyo Hanabi", "Happy Days", "Strawberry Jam" and lots of other stuff from LOVE JAM. So... yeah. Never looked back :B

My definitive "I've noticed Ai-chin" moment:
It was back in 2006, a friend and I were just kidding around showing each other random youtube videos and she brought up the さくらんぼ PV and I fell in love.

My definitive "I love Ai-chin" moment:
A while after the moment I mentioned above I finally got around to downloading Ai-chin's discography and I listened to 金魚花火 and the song really touched my heart and I knew that I loved her as an artist and have ever since Love
