When it comes to Metal, I'm not really into the whole metalcore or heavy metal (i.e, Norma Jean, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, etc, etc.) I'm more into Doom Metal or Viking Metal. Haha, yeh it sounds funny but the quality, to me, is alot better than bands above mentioned in my post. Such bands include:
Everygrey
Katatonia (Before he lost his voice and sounds monotone)
Nevermore
Mercenary
Dragonforce, to a lesser extent.
Dungeon
Deftones
Machine Head
I could go through more but I dont have my ipod on me so I'll have to do it later.
This list isn't to say I'm a Metal head, I enjoy my other bands like Radiohead, Stina Nordenstam, Dir En Grey, Bloodsimple, A Perfect Circle. But I just don't like people screaming at my through headphones, it defeats the purpose of enjoying a song to me.
Although, I do like Alexisonfire and Saosin but I guess that's because they don't have a bunch of whinging, screeching guitars like The Acacia Strain or other such bands. |

| I like some metal like Aystem Of A Down and Ghoul. I also like the japanese metal bands Zombie Ritual and Volcano. Most japanese burning spirits hardcore bands are kinda heavy like Crude, Forward, Bastard, And Death Side. And lets not forget the grindcore bands like Nasum, Bathtub Sh**ter(bad word), and 324. |

- Within Temptation
- Dream Theatre

i used to listen to lots of metal bands around 15-18 y.o. and especially american thrash metal as:
Slayer, (old) Megadeth , Anthrax, Testament, (old) Metallica
Also some death/black metal bands :
Cynic, Death ,Pestilence, (old) Sepultura, Samael, Emperor, At the Gates, Obituary...
Of course i still listen to several favourite songs and this reminds me that old school metal bands are always the best ones! |

| i realise that most of us listen to heavy music during our teenage time. Guess that bcoz heavy music reflects out our anger that we didn't manage well. Time pass us by, and i rarely listen to heavy music. Not dun listen to them at all, just not too much as compared to jpop. Maybe my anger is no longer there? But one thing that disappoints me is that, band nowadays are not as good as what they were used to be. Seriously. I can't deny that ROCK is dead when someone said it. It's bcoz when a band gets more famous, the motivity for them to make good music goes down... I still like the bands of the early 90's. Sadly, their quality of music isn't as good as b4 when they first came out. |

I listened only to heavy music before a year (90% American), but as I found about J music, my interest into it slowly lost. But I still listen to J-Rock, like The GazettE, Kagrra, Gackt, so I canīt say I donīt listen to it anymore, it only changed to 95% Japanese and 5% other. But I mostly listen to J-Pop now.. |

| I dont mean to heavily criticise the metal genre or any of their fans but can it really be called music? From the music I heard, a lot of it seems to be just screaming, no real singing. While it does add some variety and spice to the music world, I still dont (and dont believe I ever will) agree with it being termed as "music" |

mu·sic
noun
1. an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
Well sorry but it is, if you did not define Metal as music you would infact be saying, "that music doesn't exist which it does". It infact is a sound, maybe sounds more to you like a "trainwreck", but it expresses the idea of emotion as stated above, no mater how depressing or graphic it gets. Metal has all that is defined on top.
Also you can have your opinion on it all you like, even though im not a big fan of metal. Be respectful to the people who like this expression of art which is classed under the category of "music" from what is defined above. |
