most of you will have seen the new Channel-Ai screencaps shown as a thumbnail for TV performances. this topic will show you how to make them yourself!
example
you will need 2 pieces of software and a background image. (both freeware and Windows only)
Image Grabber II .net Download (ZIP 1.53 MB)
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 runtime environment
get it here (22.4 MB) and use the "Download" button
your computer may have the .NET runtime environment already installed, so you can try skipping this step and seeing if the program runs. if it doesnt, then you will need to download and install it.
Screencaps background (artwork created by caffeinated)
save the Screencaps background onto your hard drive. (we have only been using the white background for consistency, though the black one looks pretty nice too)
install the software then run Image Grabber
first, set the Options
File > Options...
Font for Labels: Arial 8, Yellow
Font for Details: Arial 9, Black
remember to set the Background image.
Text to paste into Details:
Quote: File Name: [FILE_NAME]
File Size: [FILE_SIZE]
Resolution: [WIDTH]x[HEIGHT]
Duration: [DURATION]
Video Details: [VIDEO_CODEC], [VIDEO_BITRATE], [FPS] fps
Audio Details: [AUDIO_BITRATE], [AUDIO_CODEC]
to use, load the video,
File > Open File...
stop the video (it starts automatically)
click on the button to the right of the camera to take multiple screenshots. change the 30 to 28.
File > Save File...
[Save]
thats it. then to post it at Channel-Ai, upload the screencap you made to www.imageshack.us
if you have any questions or issues installing or using, please post.
----
Additional notes.
● if you have a blog and want to create and post your own personalised screencaps you can make your own background and change it in the Options.
● for people who are pedantic like me, there is a better way of posting imageshack thumbnails than just using their default link. imageshack's thumbnails link launches popups and other advertising, which is slow and annoying. the way to post them so it shows only the image when you click on the thumbnail is to save the Direct link to image (last one) and use it in the following way:
Code: [url=(direct link)][img](direct link with .th before extension)[/img][/url]
so you use the imageshack direct link as the [url] and you add .th to the direct link, before the file extension, for [img] |

yukarichan, thanks for bringing it up, I fixed the link with a working one.
Thanks for writing this screencap tutorial and posting it here, pon pon. As mentioned the cool background was created by one of the mod, caffeinated. It was pon pon's suggestion that we have our own branded screencaps and I asked him to work with caffeinated on this project. Well, I must say it is indeed a very good idea and very well executed overall, seeing how our screencaps look so professional now.
I have been planning to have part of the gallery dedicated to all of her live performances screencaps, which follow the same standard pointed out in this announcement post. I'm sure it will be a great way to document all her live performances to date. Any suggestion or ideas? |

Thanks for this useful tutorial. As for eyn's project I think that the gallery might not be an appropriate place for this (IMO it would be a bit messy). If you don't give up the Wiki project yet, I think placing this (= document all Ai's live performances) into Wiki should be better. |

| Thanks so much for this tutorial. It certainly helped me. I managed to make screencaps at Crossover with your help. Now I only need to design a neat logo. |

about the file>options part....
i don't have that...i have file>settings
and that leads me to something that does not look like that screencap
does it matter which .Net Framework i use? because mine is already updated to 3.0...so do i have to downgrade the thing to 2.0? |

^ i wouldn't think that a higher version of .NET Framework would be a problem.
do you see the following message when you select
Help > About Image Grabber II.NET... ?

ok. not sure how this has happened... but uninstall your current version of Image Grabber II .net using
Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
then download Image Grabber II .net again from the first post and re-install it.
if anyone else is having a problem, please try this as well. |
