True. If it's Ai or not, I would still add her. That would build my reputation. American music is cool. I understand you don't like the music that is explicit. That's a good reason. We should respect other's opinions! |

i'm quickly just losing my respect for mainstream american music. and mainstream is like, hip-hop, rap, stuff like that.
i dunno, it seems to be getting worse...("fergalicious" [or however you spell it] anyone? *shudders* )
sorry if anyone likes it, but it's like, she's just singing a song about how great she is. i mean, what is that? and before that, "london bridge" *barfs*
and it saddens me that people like it. i mean, older people is ok, but when 6th graders have that as their favorite song, that's just wrong. they don't even know what the song is about!!
ok, i'm gonna stop complaining before i get into an argument with anyone about this, just i always can complain/insult mainstream american music |

Lol, fergalicious.
It's just... funny. It's like that movie "cheetah girls" (OK now I probably sound beyond dumb, lol...) they call all their clothing and everything about them "cheetahlicious"... I find that funny... haha... fergalicious... this would be like... channel-ailicious, then...
Anyways! Every country has bad mainstream! As for me, I hate mainstream Japanese Visual rock! Except I don't know if I hate it more than American... but every country also has it's good! Like America has many good indies rock/alternative bands (though I prefer European ones more, but I also like bands from here). |

I remember the times when all the happy feel good songs were "mainstream." Ahh the good days.. Being a small kid and singing along to Backstreet, incomprehensible hamsters and all other random pop . Now mainstream is so "hardcore" that it's scary to see 8 year olds screaming grunge, heavy metal rock and rap. Not that I don't mind them now. Mainstream changes so quickly.
All that said and done, I still like "American" music. Variety is good. Lately "My Chemical Romance" is quite addictive, no idea why though . |

American mainstream has been sort of scaring me lately . I mean, there's still some good songs, but a lot of them are just...gah -shudder-. I can't even distinguish one from another. I do like some rap/hip-hop/R&B, but that's when I feel like dancing and I don't really care what they're saying. I'm more into songs with a deeper meaning, that make me think, even if it's just a little bit. |

| American mainstream is just terrible, but it's probably even worse with CPop. Vapid, mass-produced lyrics + attractive dancer = CPop platinum. Hi Jolin. |

haha to SaigoNoLoveSong! I don't really like C-pop either. It makes it worse when some of them "copy" other artists' work. Like cyndi wang using Momo no Hanabira and m2m's the day you went away.
Well, i like American Music on the whole, but not metal! |

American Music is good in my eyes, but that is a bit of a generalisation
Are we talking about modern American music, because if we are, I might as well leave now . No seriously - I have never kept up to date with music - There's so much other music that has been out for years that I still need to listen to, and that have done everything before, causing modern music, with synthesisers, etc (causing even less interest for me, due to no actual musical skill being needed - no guitars, etc), leaving only some "talented" voice to be the focus of the music. It's a shame as it seems a lot of people wouldn't be interested by the instrumental side of music, or would never listen to a solely instrumental piece
It's funny really, as there was once such legends as Jimi Hendrix, who perfected the art of the guitar, and now, practically any artist can recreate that using a computer (of course, it is no-where near as good ). And then there was some modern-day rap artists who used the Kashmir riff in one of his tracks...and then rapped over it....
The general feel I get from modern day, American music is negative - Much like modern-day cinema, it is full of remakes(covers), copy-cat artists and sex-driven music - So the music videos of women in tight clothes dancing around a man in a slutty fashion is supposed to take the viewers' mind away from the music?....the part we are supposed to be wanting to witness?.....madness!
Well that's now I feel anyway, attack my comment if you like
Some great American artists that I enjoy:
Dream Theater (kinda modern)
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rage Against The Machine
The Doors
Marvin Gaye
Also Nirvana - I guess they are probably the most popular American band for a long time (Or is it just that I haven't heard of another band since then )

@ Tdclarke, well, i'm agree with you, and not agreeing with you at the same time! I do love the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, but I have to say that the modern American music can be pretty good too. I totally agree with what you say about the sex-driven music and covers. But that could be a hasty generalisation, because these kinda music tend to be the ones which are highly publicized and thus, can be seen as the ONLY kind of music in America. If you dig a little deeper and find some "clean" bands, i'm sure your view would change=)
I'm really quite into the oldies and i LOVE THE RAMONES=) awesome awesome band from the 70s! |
