Well, she can get high and not every single one of her songs is good, but I still think she is an amazingly talented singer, performer, songwriter and piano player. I just remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and if someone personally doesnt like Ai, then let them have that opinion.

I'll be honest and say that I sort of cringed for the first 5 seconds. After that, I became a fan. Nod I know a lot of people that can't stand the sound of her voice but then they listen to music where I can't stand their voice (like Ayumi Hamasaki). So it all depends on the person.

Usually though, after some time I get accustomed to it. That happened with Ai. Smile

Ai's voice is just great the way it is, there is no need for any change as long as the fans appreciate it. Why change when you are alredy a top artist?

I really like her voice, as it is completely different to anything else I listen to. I guess, if I were to hear many other Asian/Japanese artists then I might change my mind, but at the moment I think it's great how she can sing in so many different styles - Deep, moody ballads to up-beat tracks and they sound equally amazing, although completely different when analysing her voice.

I wouldn't say squeaky, I would say Strong Smile

I love her voice! I think sometimes I wish her voice was less nasally...but even when it is a bit nasally, I still love it. I listen to vocalists like Kana & Kusumi Koharu a lot so, if squeaky that won't bother me either. I like her voice more when she is doing her ballads, like in "friends" and "kimi ni kaeru.". Her high notes are really good! It's easy to tell she has more vocal control, talent, range and diversity than some other girl vocalists.

Well, I think she's such a great singer. Everyone has your own voice style, and so Ai does. I think she can do both childish and "serious" voices very well and I like both them anyway. And she's one of the very rare asian singer (as well the other singers around the world) who sings exactly like it was recorded on the CD which makes me conclude she doesn't make use of any eletronic voice tuner or stuff like that available in all studios.

I think Ai's voice is very unique...but its an aquired taste. For Japan her voice is quite normal..and I enjoy the squeakier more uniqe voices...but I know the general US listener does'nt like her voice upon inital listen. My b/f for example...he hates 黒毛和牛上塩タン焼680円 (i luv it btw Love ) cause Ai's voice grates his nerves(as well as others)...so i guess it's a matter of culture differences too

I think her voice is quite unique.. I don't get bored of it after listening to her songs for a while.. like when I listen to BoA, it get so boring.. because her voice is plain.. boring. I wanna hit myself in the head when listening to her (NO offense to any BoA fan.. only my opinion Surprised ) but just to set an example.. I think some people if they hear the wrong song from Ai.. they might be a bit surprised by her voice.. .like SMILY... I got to say.. that's the song I can't stand.. the first verse is fine then.... I change song.. so other than that Ai's voice is LOVE <3<3

I like her voice quite a lot since its suitable for a wide range of songs, but I do have to agree, that sometimes, her voice is kinda squeaky especially in upbeat songs like SMILY, which I didnt like at first, but definitely got used to it overtime.
Overall, I think she has an awesome voice for ballads, and a good voice for everything else.

I had actually liked her voice from the very beginning, including all her upbeat songs. She was one of the first JPop artists I had listened to, so her voice was new and fresh. When i had heard her ballads, though, she completely blew me away. My mom says her voice is like a child's, but I think that's why I like it. It represents innocence.

i agree that her voice is definitely unique and that it's an acquired taste.
the first song that i heard was "HEART", which she sang with a very clear, un-squeaky, un-nasally voice.
For some of her ballads though, her voice can get rather nasal.
"Friends" is one of my favorite Ai songs, but her voice gets really nasal, which detracts a bit from the emotionally powered euphony of the song.
The live jazz version of "Kuroge Wagyuu Joshio Tanyaki 680 Yen" in her Ai am Best Tour 2007 is a great vocal performance in my opinion. The jazzyness and drawn out syllables really brings out the best of Ai's voice.
