It's probably too early to say this but my favourite would be Sawajiri Erika. Her voice is getting better these days and her songs are exciting to listen to. She has significantly improved since Taiyou no Uta and I cant wait to hear more from her! But I guess maybe it's only because her music is new to me and is currently the one I have the most interest in.
But otherwise...my absolute favourite would of course be Otsuka Ai! Who could possibly beat her?? |

As of now, Ito Yuna is my favorite. Her voice, especially in her ballads, is amazing, amazing, amazing. Her style is such a good different from the average female pop I otherwise listen to. Every time I listen to a song of hers, it's like a big breath of fresh air. She has such impressive range and power in her voice, it's (again) amazing. She is my genuine favorite and I hope she stays around for very long. |

Definitely Utada Hikaru.
She's the one responsible for throwing me into the J-Pop world.
Her vocals may not be the strongest, but her unique voice and meaningful lyrics make up for it. She's not breathtakingly (is that even a word?) beautiful with the perfect make-up and hair, but she radiates an odd beauty that you can't pinpoint. Her songs and soothing vocals puts me in a peaceful state of mind.
Aish~ It's a shame that her voice isn't the same. That 'Utada United' tour really put a strain on her vocal cords. I do hope she gets better. |

| For me, it has to be Ayumi Hamasaki. Ever since I got to know her around March 2006, she has been the artist I listen to the most times, and she's the artist who has the most songs I've ever liked, and the thing I like about her the most, is the fact she is able to write so many beautiful songs, with topics such as loneliness, love, sadness, happiness, etc. which is why I'm able to relate to many of her songs, not to mention that since I've knew her, I've experienced many events that makes it seem like Ayu experienced the same thing. |

Other than Otsuka Ai.........................
ayabie is incredible. Despite being a VK/oshare-kei band--meaning how they get shitted for how people like them for their looks rather than their music--ayabie has the ability to conjure up a variety of emotions in me. Their vocalist, Aoi, has god-sent vocals which can reach the highest of the high and the lowest of the low which makes me damn envious! But mostly, their onstage presence is overwhelming-- like getting electrocuted... but in a good way. Not to mention, their cute loveydovey songs have such adorable and sweet lyrics. Definitely a band to check out? Well, don't pummel me if you don't like them
Another one of my favorite artists is Eason Chan. He's from HK, and sings in Cantonese and Mandarin. And his semi-recent album What's Going On...? is sort of like the CD of my life. That is sort of really all I can say about him. Definitely spectacular. |

| Well: My favorite would probably actually be Younha, because her voice is just... amazing. Seriously. I want her voice so badly, because it's just smooth and rich and gorgeous that it completely overrules anything else. I also love her choruses, even if her songs aren't always absolutely brilliant. |

so, two years later. (not gonna mention Ai-chin, as this IS Ch-Ai, and we all love her to pieces anyway )
Well I definitely have to say something about Ayumi Hamasaki. On the outside, Ayumi must seem like some plastic barbie doll that does as she's told, acts as she's directed; in essence, a princessy dreamland puppet. This is what I first thought of her before exploring her music; turns it out it was the opposite--culture follows her command, and not the other way around. Soon, I found that she not only writes music to save her own heart, but music that extends across the ocean and touches the hearts of people around the world, so people can hear a personal, and yet universally-resonating message straight from the bottom of her soul. She's not the best singer, she's not the best performer; she's as only as good as she gives to the people, which I would like to believe is all of her. She really works hard to produce those songs that touch peoples' hearts and emotions, and I hope she will continue to do so .
Secondly, I definitely have to mention misono. Probably half the world will be thinking "lol misono wtf?" but hear me out: misono is not the best singer, or the best performer, or even the best artist. But she never gives up. She is always fighting to make a name for herself, and it's hard for because she is the sister of Koda Kumi, who is one of the biggest names in J-pop, and she probably understands that she can never be better than her big sister, or even move outside of Kumi's shadow. But she doesn't quit. She gets right back in the fray and she goes on making those show her personality; shines through her music, her lyrics; it's an honest reflection of her. Aside from maybe Ai Otsuka and Ayumi, there are very few artists that can make songs that are both quirky and lamenting like misono.
Congratulations to you if you read all that. |

I would say Younha is my favourite artist. The unique aspects of Younha are her voice and style and her range in singing. I admire her for her dedication for singing as well. To think that she would go to Japan and perform her debut there inspite of her not knowing a single thing about speaking japanese, let alone singing in japanese. Her performance in every single songs is unique and piercing. Also the fact that she's cute . She makes use of her talent and shares it.
I got into japanese music because of her and to korean music recently as well. The first song from Younha that I heard was Houki Boshi, instantly i recognised her talent and thought that she was over 20 or so but I was shocked that she was only 16 when she sang Houki Boshi (Listen to Umbrella, Telepathy, Memory, examples of her korean music). Her english is also impressive on top of japanese and I heard that she's also learning mandarin. |

Yes for sure it's Ai-chin i'm absolutelyr fan of her . but we are on channel-ai so i don't want to talk about the queen now.
i just want to say something about aiko ... she is for me the most powerful singer she is energic she just loves music and enjoy it with her fans. her songs are punchy like KiraKira or Power of love. but she does perfect ballad like Hitomi or Yori michi . She's a simple person ... we don't see her a looot and many people who listen J-pop dosen't know her (yes they are a little bit stupid) but she proves that singer doesn't need to be in AVEX for be appreciate and famous. For me she's just the best after ai-chin .
And i want to talk about Namie Amuro ... she is very different by Ai and aiko for sure. but she loves enjoy music her concert tour are always very very impressive she's singing and dancing perfectly. she always does energics songs like "Want me want me " i enjoy her music for dancing ! Anyway she's a very good singer and a beautiful person . and she's wonderful this women is absolutely gorgeous! i love her ! |

@hitomi #1: Hahaha! Yes indeed I did change my mind!! Wow, I was looking at that comment and wondered "which idiot said that?" and turns out it was me Well, I still enjoy her music but I'd have to say, she definitely isn't one of my absolute favourites anymore.
Anyway, greatest points of my favourite artist? Well, Utada composes really fresh J-pop. She introduced me to the genre and her unique vocals and composition style is just awesome. Unfortunately, having her set the standard meant I lost interest in a lot of J-pop artists rapidly who didn't share from what I viewed as the same level of talent. That was until I came across Otsuka Ai who composed some of the prettiest ballads ever |
