Every now and then when I get onto Channel-Ai, a bunch of links will appear on top of the thread. They've all got inappropriate names like "nude grandma" and other gross things like that. And sometimes it'll ask me to run an ActiveX control. This only happens on Channel-Ai, not any of the other forums I go to. So...do I have something on my computer  ? And does anyone know what it is? Thank you in advance for your help.  |

It seems you have adware in your PC  ....
It couldn't be the forum cuz it doesn't happen to me...if it was the forum..then it could be infected with pornobots (i remember the forum on my website got infected once.  )
You should try a good antivirus...i don't really know about a good one..  ..xD...but the one i'm using is McAfee

I believe there is nothing wrong with the forum at the moment, but quite a while ago I do notice some problem with the forum, namely an embedded iframe which loads external javascript above the topic title, quite similar to what you mentioned. btw, this problem has been taken care of (as far I know) and is most likely due to the insecure WordPress 2.3 install for the blog which allows XSS exploit. I have updated the blog to WordPress 2.3.1 which have the security issue fixed.
One thing that might help solve your problem is to remove all cookies from your browser and check your computer for spyware as Rodri mentioned. I recommend Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and AVG Anti-Spyware. You should also use Firefox instead of IE as it is more secure and less likely to get your computer infected with spyware just by visiting websites without manually installing anything.
Please keep us updated about this issue so we know if there's any more problem and what else can be done. |

| All right, thank you both for your help! I have Symantec Antivirus, but I've never found it very helpful. It's more of a reactive system than a proactive one. And I actually use MSN explorer, not IE or Firefox. I'm gonna go try one of those things you mentioned now... |

Hey octocoffee, It is adware that is installed on your computer. I recommend using Spyware Doctor, the best anti-spyware program out there:

Also, just to let you know Symantec Antivirus is really bad. Well not really bad, but it is considered to be a "hog". It takes up and uses up so much system memory, that it just drags down your system, making everything slow...
I recommend using NOD32, one of the best out there. Easy-to-use, and very effective.

Also one more thing, although Kaspersky is really good, it causes many problems internet-wise. It slows down browsing, due to their constant filters. But that can be fixed by uninstalling the web related mini programs during the Kaspersky installation.

Eep... I need some serious help. I tried all four of the anit-spyware things you guys gave, plus Webroot Spy Sweeper, but they're still there!  Even worse, they're permanently there. Before, if I refreshed the page, they would go away. They've also doubled in number...  Would it help if I formatted my computer? |

I think it should, considering it's a file that's installed on your computer. I think just reinstalling your OS would help, considering that if its directory is erased then it shouldn't pose a problem anymore. But i'm not 100% sure so if I'm wrong, don't sue me  If reinstalling doesn't help, then wiping out the hard drive will. |

| Hmm...in my case, I had a setup disc for my computer and I just plug that in and restart the comp and it should automatically run. And then I just follow the steps to reinstall the OS. I'm not sure if thats how it works with all computers though...either that, or I guess you'd just put in the CD that ran the OS I guess. I'm not sure if you run that as you boot the computer or when you're already logged in but I guess you could try both |

| Hmmm thats really strange... Spyware doctor should definitely be able to detect it... Ah well, but before you reinstall your OS, try system restore. Although it probably won't work, as it seems to be spyware, but its always worth a try, as reinstalling your OS should be your last resort. So just try system restore, and restore it to a previous date before the problem occurred. Then, if all else fails, reinstall your OS. |
