Russian huh? Yeah, that is pretty cool.
Well when you first get foobar it starts pretty ugly and I found it hard to use. But after installing somethings to make it look and act different, I like it a lot better than iTunes  But yeah, if you don't use last.fm, then iTunes is fine.  |

Wow, hiro, that sounds really cool  I don't code so much really - Have done some basic-amateur html/xhtml coding, but it just screws me up when I find out it isn't IE compliant. Microsoft's product are seriously so bad! A site displayed in Firefox looks perfect, but wait...IE doesn't read the CSS file properly, skips some vital code, and decides to delete half of the body text  And as like 90% of people use IE, it is kind of a major problem

Also, the Megaupload thing sounds cool. just I have kinda moved towards Mediafire since it is soooo much better in the fact that there's no download tickets/limits, etc. Nice though

^ Argh I know, I hate IE. Why do people use it??! It sucks!
Also, when people make myspace layouts, they often make them for IE, so sometimes when you go to their page using Firefox, it leaves out tons of stuff and the links are dead, so then you have to hit the back button just to get out of it!
Stupid IE...
*ahem* Anyways...
Yeah, when I upload files, I use Mediafire, but when I'm downloading from someone else, they might've upped it to MU so then I'm kinda stuck using it. I don't really mind it, but the pop up thing is annoying |

^Yeah I completely agree, and I do the same now - I used to use Megaupload all the time, but then I found Mediafire, so yeah...
IE....I wont even start (I think you mentioned everything )
I never have noticed the Myspace thign though, but then that's probably because I never use it

^Yeah, I could go on for years ranting about IE...me and my best friend argue about it sometimes, because she's one of those IE users (boo, hiss!)
Well, the myspace thing is only when people are like, insane about their profiles. Like they'll make their own layouts, but I think they're called "DIV" layouts (the ones Firefox doesn't display right, that is) But the only person I talk to who does that is my best friend But she stopped doing it as much on one of her profiles so that I could talk to her because she knows that I can't contact her using Firefox on those layouts.
I never uploaded on MU before...it looked too scary.  |

'DIV' layouts (layouts based on DIV html tags) should theoretically work correctly in Firefox.
The reason they sometimes don't is because the person who designed a specific layout that doesn't work clearly designed it on IE without taking into consideration any other browser.
And IE displays CSS (stylesheet) formatting in a different and incorrect way compared to other browsers, so it may 'look right' in IE, but that will cause the correct display of the layout to 'look wrong' in Firefox.

people use IE because it comes with their computer, and some are too lazy to get another browser, because IE 'works'. others don't even know the difference between 'web browser' and 'internet explorer'. they think that IE is the only way to surf the web.
one of the things i love about Firefox is that it's so customizable.
for example, right now, i have it set so all i have to do to go back (like the back button) is hold down my right mouse button and drag left a little bit and let go!
the Opera browser has this feature built in (Opera is a GREAT browser btw; it's also the browser that the Nintendo Wii has), but Opera overall is not as customizable.

yeah. i always test my web pages and designs in IE, Firefox, and Opera whenever I make it.
and then I ask my friend who uses Safari on his mac to test it for me on there.
IE now has less than 80% market share, so it's really annoying when over 20% of users can't view a web page cuz they are using (most likely) a better browser.
also, a lot of sites are viewed by people more tech-savvy than the average web user, so the percentage of people using browsers other than IE is even higher, sometimes even over 70%.

if the ad-blocking script is messing up your myspace, you can actually temporarily disable the ad-blocking stylesheet by pressing 'ctrl+m' and clicking on the checkmark next to my stylesheet. |

I will have another go, as it is a website for my dad's business, just I haven't got much time at the moment to check these things out. To be honest I think it might be something in the head which is non-compliant, as the body seems fine. Then again, could also be some dodgy CSS somewhere 
Yeah, I understand why you wanted the popups removed from megaupload, as more people seem to use that for uploading that Mediafire I use both regularly, just if uploading, now I'll use Mediafire (although I rarely upload  )
I agree with what you said about why people use IE any not any other browser - I can tell when some people see me use it, they're like "well how is it better? It still browses the web" 
hehe - Some people have no idea, plus (for some reason) Microsoft software seems to work terrible on my PC, and crashes all the time Probably because my computer is basically completely Open-Source (would only need Linux ), and of course that goes against Microsofts' mission of "make crappest software ever, restrict user from changing anything (as it is "perfect" as it is ) and then sell it for lots of money"
Man, has anyone ever managed to complete a project within Windows Movie Maker Whoever coded that is a complete [silly person], as that's gotta be the worst app. ever for crashing

DIVs are definitely much better.
i have created many DIV layouts that work perfectly fine all 4 of the most widely used browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari, and Opera).
definitely go with DIVs whenever possible.
in my opinion, the best dynamic layouts are modular and drag-and-drop-enabled!
and that can only be done with DIVs.

Oh I see. And you would think, that these people who make their own layouts and think they're so smart because they can write all these little codes, would use a better browser. It just proves their noob-iness. Also, sometimes things just display strangely on my laptop because of its widescreen, but when the links are dead like that, I know it's because they use IE
Wow, they really don't know? How depressing. Well, it seems like a lot of them know, they just think Friefox sucks because their noob-ish, full-of-holes layouts apparently only look right on IE.
Yeah, my dad's computer has Opera on it. And we have a Wii, but it isn't close enough to our wireless router to get a signal
Oh ok. Yeah, but there are so many bloody ads on myspace, that's the main reason I wanted your stylesheet.

I've made a couple things on Windows Movie Maker actually, but I agree, it does suck. Not to mention, when you've finished your project, the only file format you can save it as is WMMproject or something lame like that, so you can't use it for anything. 
While we're already off topic like this, can someone explain RSS feed to me? |

firefox 2.0 has a built-in RSS feed viewer / reader / subscription tool
RSS feeds are a bit like web pages, because they are written with a markup language
but RSS uses a special type of XML instead of the HTML of webpages
RSS feeds were designed for a different purpose than full-fledged webpages
they were designed to store information, most often headlines and sometimes excerpts, in an organized list fashion
if you look at the above example, you will see that the subject of each forum post is shown in the title and the post's content in the, well, content portion
here is another example of an RSS feed:
http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_latest.rss
see how each item has a title (the headline) and a brief excerpt or summary of the content.
RSS feeds are useful because they can be easily regularly updated and subscribed to.
Subscribing to an RSS feed usually involves clicking on the orange button in your browser that looks like this:

clicking on that will either give you a preview of what the feed contains or bring up a prompt that asks whether you want to subscribe to the feed and if there are multiple feeds, which you'd like to subscribe to.
once you subscribe to one, you can view the latest "headlines" by finding the item (it's probably in your bookmarks in the folder you put it in for firefox) (if you're using IE7, it'll be in the Feeds portion of your favorites)
hover your mouse over the item if you're using firefox, and you'll see all the latest headlines come up as a list of 'bookmarks' that you can click on
this feed will update itself (every hour, i think)
if you are using IE7, you can click on the favorites button to view your favorites and then click "feeds".
your rss feed should be in that list.
clicking on that item will bring up the latest headlines.
there are also tools online to help you view multiple feed subscriptions at once.
and there are also firefox extensions that allow you to check multiple feeds and refresh them whenever you want to see if anything new has come up.
(that's how i can know instantly whenever something is posted on channel-ai )

^ Wow. I see. So it's like a little list thing that shows you updates, basically? That's pretty cool. 'Cause I've noticed the little red rectangle up in the corner of the address bar that says "RSS" whenever I'm on Ch-Ai, and I've always wondered what it was really for.
But now I get it. Thanks! If I think of any other questions I'd like to ask, I'll let you know. |

thanks for the sidebar thing, tdclarke.
it's working great.
i still prefer iTunes tho.
the one big advantage for me of using foobar2000 is that it supports FLAC files and has a lot of file conversion tools.
i also noticed that VLC media player supports FLAC files, but i dont like their interface much.
FLAC = free lossless audio codec
it allows for full CD audio files to be compressed without any loss of data.
LOVE PiECE sounds amazing in FLAC format. |

How do you burn in CDs in FLAC format?

Well, I don't actually, but after listening to downloaded copies of Ai's albums for months, when I got the CDs I decided to have the highest quality rips ever Yeh man, Love PiECE sounds soooo good
Well, my foobar config was pretty poor - Each person really should customise it themselves, as then they have exactly what they want, just I was doing a similar UI to that of iTunes (well, to that of a screenshot of iTunes I found on the 'net )
I guess iTunes only supports *.m4a and *.mp3 files maybe? Maybe *.wma (although I doubt that!)
Yes, VLC (like foobar) plays pretty much any file - My friend even discovered it could "play" static images such as a jpeg
FLAC sizes really are stupidly big though - The average track for me (admittedly usually fairly lengthy tracks) are 40/50MBs!!! Practically a whole album in other formats/bitrates!!!!
No, iPod wont support FLAC, nor will any other portable media player (to my knowledge). Commercial equipment only supports commercial codecs (generally), so no free, open -source codecs are allowed, as that probably goes against their copyright statements, etc

true, iTunes doesn't support FLAC, but if you decode FLAC to the WAV format, then you can play it in iTunes.
all you need to decode it is foobar2000!
actually, you can also decode it with the FLAC software itself if you don't have foobar2000.
@tdclarke:
those files are big, but not stupidly big, because if they made the files any smaller, then the quality would go down.
there is a mathematical limit at which if you compress the file anymore, it becomes a "lossy" format like mp3 or wma or m4a.
FLAC compresses audio files as much as it can down to that limit while remaining "lossless" like wav. |
