I've seen some people posting huge images *looking at a1strank* in their post and this could cause a pain to people with slow connection, on the other hand it is very likely that huge image will screw up the forum layout which is optimized for 800*600 desktop users.
As a result, I have to announce that pictures posted in a message should have a maximum width of 500 pixels. Image larger than this size will distort the forum layout, despite the fact that javascript embeded with each post might be able to resize the image (consider people with javascript turned off).
Take this as a convenience for other users as reducing image size can significantly reduce loading speed. You can embed a link to the original size image if you desired, using bbcode as follow: [url=original image][img]your thumbnail[/img][/url] |

to clarify the definition of a huge image further, as well as a maximum width of 500 pixels, images should not be hundreds of KB in size (or more). this could be an uncompressed image such as a BMP or an animated GIF.
in particular, animated GIFs that are video sequences are to be avoided, as these can be enormous.
as a general rule, images displayed should not be greater than 100 KB. this is more than enough to display a high quality JPG or PNG at the recommended dimensions. any image greater than 100 KB should be displayed with a thumbnail. |

^ I usually just use a thumbnail, no matter what the file size or dimensions are. I think it's just easier that way. Plus if someone looks over your shoulder while you're on the computer, it's harder for them to tell what the image is if it's a thumbnail. |

just hover your mouse over your signature to see the message pop up saying that it has been scaled down. |

Roger that! I love using thumbnails too. It's convenient and makes everything in order.
I'm one of those suffering from slow internet connection, so this is quite understandable. |

Has it really? It looks fine on my screen. Is the text alright and readable on your screen? I don't get the mouse over message either... |

^ eh?
version 2.0.0.11?
that's the latest stable official release.
if so, i have no idea what the problem is.
perhaps, it's because it's your own account?

| ^ I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 and I don't see the image resized or the mouse-over either. Maybe it has to do with which layout that you're using? I'm using the Peach/Heart one. |
