Anyway, a new single has been announced, "Shinku / Ai no Uta", and it will be the theme of a video game, Another Century's Episode 3. The release date is 05.09.2007.

A new single? Awesome. Can any Japanese literate person tell me what the title means? I'm interested since she always has these creative titles. Z!Z!Z! Zip! Zap! Zipangu has to be my favorite title ever. ^_^

Anyhow that album is quite a good choice to start with. It has a lot of genres which she experimented in the past and thus they are rather polished. I highly recommend that album to you. I think "Neva Eva" is more fit for those who enjoy a certain kind of style. Hitomi always tries to go to a niche and explore it. The new single is sounding promising though In the end if you feel like joining a community, you are welcome to visit Crossover
It really is a shame. She is amazing. Thank you for reassuring me that my album choice was the correct one! I would hate to have my aunt waste her money on something I wouldn't enjoy. I have a feeling the Neva Eva will grow on me eventually after multiple listens. Thank you for the invitation, I'll be sure to check it out! |

The first song title means "Crimson" and the second one is "Poem of Love". It is truly a shame but then the Japanese are more focused on image rather than quality. I think you will enjoy it. Most of the songs are quite polished and few can be considered as "fillers". Anyhow hope to see you at Crossover then |

| I actually really like her voice but I dont like a lot of her songs that I've heard so far!! The only ones I've enjoyed so far are Angelus, ESCAPE and Ai no Uta. I ended up buying her cover song collection and Delicious Best of album in Japan and hugely regretted it (they were very expensive). Are there any songs anyone can recommend me that I may like? I'm not too into her latin-styled songs (stands to reason I don't like Delicious!) but perhaps other ballads or jazz style songs? Many thanks! |

^ Ahh, you simply have to listen to Destiny -Taiyou no Hana- because it's this really cool orchestra sounding song of hers and it's like, one of my favorite ones by her. I also recommend Dragonfly...and well, I recommend the PRIMA ROSA album in general. It's the one I have and I love it
Sorry you regretted buying those albums. Had you never listened to her before? Well even if you end up not liking any of her songs, you should at least try listening to Destiny -Taiyou no Hana- because it would be a shame for anyone to live their whole life never hearing it |

| I heard Angelus and Ai no Uta and enjoyed em so I thought I'd try her albums. I should've bought her Delicious album somewhere in Tokyo so I could at least return it...I ended up buying it in Osaka where I didnt have a chance to listen to it which was a pretty stupid idea. As a result, I couldnt return it...but I'll have a try with her Prima Rosa album. Thanks for the recommendation! |

The Hitomi Shimatani thread returns to life again! For the time being at least. Like Keru, I totally recommend Destiny -Taiyou no Hana- and the Prima Rosa album in whole.
If you're into jazz and ballads, go for her Otoko Uta album. I really like Rainy Blue, Another Orion, and Kanade.
It's a shame you couldn't return the album But I guess things like that happen. And Hitomi is an artist that loves changing her style, so it's pretty likely that you won't enjoy every single song of hers. |

Oh I see. Yeah, ANGELUS is one of my favorite of her songs too. Cool PV, as well. Yeah, that's a shame you couldn't return it. But like, even in Tokyo, if you had opened the CD case and listened to it already, would they have let you return it? 'Cause here, if it's opened (CD or DVD) they won't let you return it because you could have opened it, burned it onto a computer, and then tried to return it.
Well, either way, I hope you find more songs of hers that you like. And octo's right, a lot of her songs seem like they're even from different artists when compared to each other! |

@Octocoffee: Yeah I ended up buying her Otoko Uta Cover Song Collection...the only one that I really enjoyed was ESCAPE I love the backing and her voice seems to fit perfectly with it (though my mum tends to disagree)
@KerushiiAi: Hmm I'm not sure. It's possible...I think people can return em even after they are opened here in Australia. But then again I'm not 100% sure with music...my friend did that with games (buy, burn and return) but shh |

Personally I feel her Otoko Uta album was restricted to a niche. So you either love it or hate it. I'm not too crazy over the album though sometimes I do get into the mood to listen to a couple of tracks. I liked Rainy Blue and Another Orion best myself |

^ Yeah, I agree with you on that. Nevertheless, it did really well for a cover album, in my opinion. I guess the Japanese like the jazzy, mellow style, but they don't like the grandiose Destiny -Taiyou no Hana- style |

Thanks for the recommendations guys (or rather, girls )
The Prima Rosa album was the most enjoyable album that I have heard from her so far but that is only comparitively. There were still a number that I disliked. Dragonfly was quite the bucketload of fun and I enjoyed that one the most. Ramblin', Kimi no Koe and 春待人 (not sure how to read those three altogether) were also alright. I actually didn't really like Destiny - Taiyou no Hana -. It's style reminded me too much of the Gundam Wing opening theme I think (maybe closing theme) and I'm not too crash hot on that type.
Anyway, I guess I'll keep looking as it seems there's something here and there for me... |

I take it most hardcore Shimatani fans would have heard her new album by now, but I only just came round to listening to it. Her music has become a lot more mainstream which doesn't help her be any more unique like she was before, but I think it's become a lot more accessible to listeners like me at least
Once again, I was very picky with the songs in her album but I was quite attracted to a lot of the opening tracks. My favourite (of the new ones) is the acid-jazz styled Start. The strings version of Ai no Uta was also really beautiful...but I'm not sure whether I like the original more or not.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on her new album...and on a sidenote, I think the fans of her old style will be disappointed with this album for its generic nature |

^ Yup, you're totally right. A lot of people were really disappointed with this album. But Hitomi tends to do that, driving off fans by going in a different direction each time she does something. I'm enjoying it though. Flare's a lot of fun. The opening tracks are my favorite too. Overall, Heavenly is my favorite. But I'm really into Dita right now. "C'est la vie!" |
