I vote for Ayu-chan!
The fact is I'm an avid Ayu fan does sway me more to her, however that doesn't mean Ai isn't a great singer. The two have different styles, to me, Ayu seems to be more upbeat with pretty fast paced and loud music with added techno-type. Ai on the other hand has her slower ballads and to me seem more rocky and the "cute" factor to it.
Ai is great, but I personally like Ayu better  |

I used to like Ayumi Hamasaki more, but now, she's... totally wasted in my most humble opinion. I don't mean she's trash, but she has such enormous talent that she doesn't use it so often, so she's wasting her talent. *COUGH* CREA wasn't so active in producing music as much as I am... and RAINBOW era. Sometimes Ayu is repetitive, and I'm not feelin' her music as much as before. So therefore, Ai. Truthfully speaking, I think Ai has more appeal to me because her music matures, BUT she keeps the same theme, she's not like a transition of cuteness to slutty-ness. And yeah, her make-up is more natural, she's not so "flashy" and is adorable.
By all means Ayu fans, this is just an opinion, not fact.  |

i vote for ai!
because she is a pianist like me and she sings wonderfully.
sadly, i didn't discover ai until more than a year after beginning to listen to jpop.
ayu is definitely more famous, but i find her songs (within each type/genre) too similar and they tend to get annoying upon several replays.
all this is my opinion of course.
don't get me wrong. i do like ayu a lot. she's one of my top 5 favorite jpop solo artists. |

Ai is great, but I personally like Ayu better
pretty much the same here, Ai's advantage to me is her persona. She seems more relatable, and she's so cute and goofy  |

lmao at first when I saw this topic..I was like, this is so gonna be a biased opinion unless people answer truthfully on who's the greatest of all time then it would be okay.
I couldn't say if I love ayu or ai more, its pretty much equal for em. Together they're my favourite all time artists in the whole entire world. But if you consider the fact that I've loved ayu longer..ever since grade two^___^(prob coz I thought she was pretty and my bro used to replay her songs over and over and I was like JOMG so cool..)..THEN maybe u could say I like ayu better?
The reason why I love them both is because they're both great lyricists(is that a word)
They're both gorgeous and I seriously wouldn't give a damn if that had a billion plastic surgery session, but I do admit at first when I heard the rumour that Ayu had plastic surgery I was seriously shocked..but still i thought, hey I love her music so does it like matter?
The same for Ai as well, even if she had plastic surgery(seriously doubt it, unless shes the greatest actress in the whole world who can make it look like shes not the type), I would still love her.
They're both so different in their type of music, even though both are considered to be J-pop
Ai's songs make me feel all fluffy and dreamy inside, and I an imagine the words from her lyrics whenever I listen to her songs.
On the other hand, Ayu's song make me feel empowered..or something like that, they're very emotional.. both artists give me a great feeling when I listen to their songs..and they're the main reason why I can stay awake in school, throughout class, assembly and on the train...and believe me ALL those things are very very boring.
The difference between the two is great, meaning I can listen to either one depending on my mood..and just to say it'd be pretty funny if they both tried to sing each others songs..coz they're pretty different on so many levels. Like imagine Ai trying to sing Talkin' 2 Myself or Evolution or Ayu singing Pocket or Sakuranbo LMAO..I think it'd be pretty weird
Ahh they're both so talented..I think I'm gonna go to fangirl mode on how great they are..but I'll refrain myself..
So if u actually bothered to read all my blubber, I would like to say overall both artists are absolutely the best, u can't compare them imo
and they both hav pretty gud personalities form what I've seen on lives and talk shows, Ai laughs ALOT O___O and like I love ayu in her concerts, have u ever seen her when she messes up her lyrics on a live concert..she usually hums the song if she's forgotten the lyrics(I understand considering shes made like over 300 songs according to somewhere on the interenet where I read that) then shouts out GOMEN! and its just sooooooooo cute...

| I love Ai-Chin, but Ayu writes about way more meaningful things and her voice is AMAZING. Ai has a pretty voice, but Ayu has a gorgeous voice. |

It actually took me a very long time to get used to Ayu's voice, her awkward notes, her piercing high notes and that vibrato that drives me insane. It's horribly unique. Sometimes her voice can be mature and yeah, it sounds pretty great in songs like Will, but the first time I heard HANABI~Episode II~? No offense to the Ayu fans, I'm not trying to insult her, but even I just can't really stand her voice for too long (and I listen to artists who most would sew their ears shut after listening to once) and I prefer Ai's all the way. Ayu has great lyrics, but sometimes her voice... She has nothing on Ai's ballads and doesn't have the "fun" factor I love about Ai.

I think Ai is better of course~haha! She is my number one!
I think Ayu is good also, but her real voice seems not as good as Ai's!! |

hmmm difficult one to choose between... i think most would agree that their styles are quite different so its like comparing apples and oranges!
imo i think ayu has a much more powerful voice compared to ai.. her songs are pretty much more "emo" as in emotional i guess... dunno.. lol
ai has got lot of uplifting songs, and lots of slow ballads (which i luv her for) but i guess she lacks the vocal power.. but i'd pick ai over ayu jz cos ai seems more creative and works well with the piano too ^.^ |

I would have to go with Ayu...
sorry Ai-chin!! 
but Ayu has been around for much much longer and has learned to work for her music and her artistry. But Ai still has a lot ahead of her! she could be the next Ayumi!! (crosses fingers, holds breath) not to mention Ai's claim to fame didn't nearly take her as much effort as other artists who really had to do a lot, such as Ayu and Kuu.
still, I like Ai's voice better. she doesn't have a huge range nor a lot of vocal power but something about her voice just...moves and inspires me in ways that Ayu's just can't. not to mention in some songs Ayu sounds like 5...(ahem, fairyland, evolution  ). Ai's got this...sort of bipolar quality about her. like she can be riding a high in Happy Days but then become all melancholy like Kingyo Hanabi. and let's not even mention Kuroge 680 En.
but, Ayu has got a respectable career under her belt. her music is diverse and her voice is not as SUHUFGHGHJGHSRJJHHHHHHHH recently, a la GUILTY & Mirrorcle World. her style's just CRAZZZYY. |
